LPG subsidy transfer scheme launched in 18 districts

The government has launched the direct cash benefit scheme for cooking gas in 18 districts which is supposed to benefit 6.7 million consumers across India. The scheme named Direct Benefit Transfers for LPG  was officially launched by the Petroleum and Gas minister M. Veerappa Moily and this was flagged simultaneously in Karnataka at Tumkur and at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. 

The subsidy on LPG cylinders is available directly to consumers in their bank accounts which are connected to Aadhaar or Unique Identification Number (UID). Those consumers who have not linked their bank accounts are required to do so by September 1 to benefit from the scheme. This scheme is projected to do a savings of millions of rupees in subsidy for the central government. 

Woman arrested in connection with triple murder in Tripura

A woman has been arrested in connection with the triple murder in a newspaper office of a Bengali Daily in Tripura. Incidentally her husband, Balaram Ghosh, the newspaper's manager Ranjit Choudhury, who was an ex-Border Security Force personnel, and proof reader Sujit Bhattacharjee was stabbed to death by two people on May 19.

The incident happened at the Dainik Ganadoot office building where the woman also stayed. Police arrested her as her statements were varied and it is suspected that this may be the case of property matter or affair.

Incidentally, the owner of the newspaper who is also the editor resided in the same building but he did not hear any sound or saw anything as per his statement. The woman, Niyoti Ghosh and her 13-year-old daughter are said to have witnessed the incident. She has been sent to police custody for a week. 

Petrol and diesel price hiked

Indian Oil Corporation increased the price of petrol by 75p per litre and diesel's price was increased by 50p per litre. This price is exclusive of local taxes, and had been effective from 12 am on June 1. The reason stated is that the value of rupee dipped to Rs 55.32 from Rs 54.26 with respect to the US dollar. Last revision in petrol prices had been on May 1 when the price was reduced by Rs.2.50 a litre. Oil companies have the authority to hike the price (retail selling) of diesel  but within a limited range. In fact, it has been stated that the revenue loss is still at Rs4.87 per litre even though the prices have been increased. Petrol prices in different cities per litre are now  as follows.

IPL spot fixing scandal: Latest updates

A lot is happening related to IPL even though the cricketing event is over as of now. This is being considered a bad phase for Indian cricket. 

Sourav Ganguly stated that M.S. Dhoni should have given a statement during his press conference. He said he understood the difficult position Dhoni is in and so he should have said that he and the team are now concentrating on the Champions Trophy and they would restore the public faith in the team by winning it. 

An emergency meeting of the BCCI will be held in Chennai on Sunday where it is expected that Srinivasan, the BCCI President, will quit. 

Delhi Police's first prosecution witness will be Rajasthan Royals player Siddharth Trivedi who is said to have been contacted by the bookies from 2010-2013. He also had given some names who used to accept gift from the bookies. He stated he had also accepted gifts and had been offered money which he did not accept though. Police had decided to make him a witness rather than arresting him as he had cooperated with the police. 

It has been alleged that Vindoo Dara Singh tried to get in touch with Adam Gilchrist and Manpreet Gony and had invited them to a launch of an electronic product where expensive watches were the gift to all those who attended. Vindoo is said to have close contacts with cricketers, umpires and has been involved in betting since 1990. 

Vidya in loud outfit for the promo of her film

Vidya Balan has again got into the skin of her character and promoted the launch of the song "Lazy lad" of her new movie Ghanchakkar in the same style the way she did for her earlier movies Kahaani and The Dirty Picture.

She came in the same outfit as she would be wearing in the movie and she was seen in a garish outfit complete with a green bandana, a T shirt with loud designs, over the top makeup and accessories. In fact, co-star Emraan Hashmi was seen in red polka-dotted night outfit to complete the look.

Vidya spoke in Punjabi as she plays a Punjabi woman in the movie.

Verification comes to Facebook too, and now there will be verified pages on Facebook. This way the pages of celebrities or the reputed brands can be authenticated. The pages which will be verified will have a blue dot with a white tick mark to indicate the authenticity.

Facebook has informed that no one can request for the pages to be verified, and they would roll this feature on their own to pages of celebrities, singers, government offices, reputed brands and businesses. In fact, soon there will be verified profiles as well on Facebook. In this feature, Facebook has emulated Twitter but this has nevertheless been welcomed by the users.
