AAP demands the formation of SIT to investigate 1984 ani-Sikh riots

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. To push the matter further the party is planning to hold meeting in Hari Nagar. It is not new but the party recommended this to the Lieutenant-Governor on January 30 while in power in Delhi. The AAP called the Centre government's step to give Rs 5 lakh to the kin of victims of riots a “good step” but said that this is not sufficient.

Name of Bengalore and 11 other cities in Karnataka changed

On the state formation day "Karnataka Rajyotsava" name of Bangalore and 11 other cities across Karnataka has been changed. Officially Bangalore will now be known as Bengaluru, Mangalore has been changed to Mangaluru, Belgaum will be known as Belagavi, Bellary is Ballari, Tumkur has changed to Tumakuru, Mysore's new name is Mysuru, Hubli will be called Hubballi, Bijapur is Vijapura, Chikmagalur is Chikkamagaluru, Gulbarga will be called Kalaburagi, Hospet has changed to Hosapete and Shimoga to Shivamogga. The state government has casted away the anglicised names and given new name having the distinct local flavour.

Nokia winding up its Chennai plant

Many people are now jobless as a major mobile company Nokia is shutting down its plant in India. The company is winding up its operations in India plant in Chennai from Saturday. The decision to wind up has given a massive blow to PM Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' campaign. Modi is putting efforts to create more jobs for youth but this is just opposite to this. Recently software giant Microsoft acquired global devices and services business of Finland-based Nokia. This also includes company's assets in India.

ONGC to host the National Open Athletics Championship in New Delhi

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is going to host an exciting the National Open Athletics Championships in New Delhi. The sport event will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from Nov 2-5. To take part in the 54th edition of this championship near about 1,000 entries have been sent. Conformation from most of the Incheon Asian Games medallists have also been received. As per media report the event will be full of excitement.

Samajwadi Party declares list of candidates for Rajya Sabha

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has declared the list of its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for Nov 20. The list contains six names Ram Gopal Yadav, Javed Ali, Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, Neeraj Shekhar, Ravi Prakash Verma and Tanzeem Fatima but surprised everyone as it does not contain the name of former party leader and outgoing Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh.

PM Modi launches digital membership drive of the BJP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the launch of the digital membership drive of the Bharatiya Janata Party said that the party must reach deep to showcase the full diversity of India. PM Modi is the first to enroll himself as the member through technologically-enabled campaign. He said that party must have a widest reach and touch everyone during expansion. As per media report party's objective is to have three times more membership from its present number i.e. 3.5 crore.
