01 November 2018 Current Events Delhi readies itself for a 10-day air pollution emergency

The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) appointed by the Supreme Court has even hinted at banning private vehicles or introducing "odd-even" rule again. The final decision will be made post consultations with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) task force.

The partial shutdown of the city will be between November 1 and November 10. The authorities will also ban construction activities in this duration, shutting down some industrial areas. "These measures are being introduced keeping in mind the forecast and the need for emergency actions to combat pollution", said chairman of EPCA.


World Bank rankings: India moves 23 notches up in "Ease of doing business"

Jumping 23 places, India now ranks at number 77th in the 'ease of doing business' ranking by the World Bank. The country ranked at number 100th in the previous year. New Zealand tops the World Bank list, the United States at number eight, and China at 46th.

According to the World Bank, India has shown an improvement in 6 out of 10 parameters. The parameters include- ease of starting a business, trade across borders, getting credit, getting electricity etc. This is the nation's second consecutive improvement, coming as a relief for the ruling party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
