Nifty scores record high, crosses 8,000 mark

The benchmark indices hit fresh records today as the BSE Sensex reached 26,856.12 points. Nifty also recorded a hit as it crossed 8,000 levels. As per reports, Indian economy has reported a growth of 5.7 percent in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) during the Q1. All the sectors including banking, auto, metal and consumer durables were trading in green.

Tejinder Singh arrested in Tara case

Former Lt. Gen. Tejinder Singh has been arrested on Monday after his bail plea was rejected by the court. He has been arrested in connection with allegations of offering Rs 14 crore bribe to V.K. Singh, the then Army Chief General for clearing the “sub standard” Tatra trucks for the army. CBI had lodged the case against him on 19 October 2012, following the complaints by V.K. Singh.

Samajwadi Party seeks ban on Yogi Adityanath from campaigning for bypolls

The Samajwadi Party has sought a ban on Yogi Adityanath from the Election Commission (EC). As per reports, the party has demanded that Adityanath should be banned from campaigning for the bypolls for 11 Assembly and one Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, due to his remarks on “love jihad”. A spokesperson from the party said the party has already written a letter to the EC asking them to take action against Adityanath.

Bopanna, Katarina reach US Open quarterfinals

Rohan Bopanna from India and Katarina Srebotnik from Slovenia have reached the mixed doubles quarterfinals of the US Open. They will come face to face with India’s Sania Mirza and Brazil’s Bruno Soares in the top seeds tournament. Leander Paes from India is also in the quarterfinals along with Zimbabwe’s Cara Black.

Lava launches Iris X5 at Rs 8,649

Lava has launched Iris X5, a selfie-focused smartphone at Rs 8,649. The handset will be available exclusively on with a 16GB memory card free. The offer will start from September 1. The phone is reported to have a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with a 1 GB RAM and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. It also includes bluetoooth 3.0, Wi-fi and USB OTG.
