Centre launches Smart Mobility Card

To enable seamless travel by different metros and other transport systems besides retail shopping and purchases, the Centre launched a Smart National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) model.The card will do away with the need to carry separate cards for banking and transit requirements. Source: IANS

Sun Pharma starts integrating opiates business in Australia

India's Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. has said it has started the process of integrating its opiates business in Australia. The company had completed the acquisition of the opiates business from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). Sun Pharma announced the acquisition in March 2015. Source: IANS

Kashmiri separatist leader Masarat Alam re-arrested

Hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Masarat Alam was re-arrested by police in Jammu jail premises after authorities released him following the Jammu and Kashmir High Court's order. India beat Sri Lanka, clinch Test series 2-1

India clinched the third Test match by 117 runs and with it the series, bowling out Sri Lanka for 268 on the fifth and final day of the match at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground here. It was India's first away Test series win against Sri Lanka in 22 years.Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews top scored with 110 while Indian pacer Ishant Sharma returned figures of 3-32. Andhra assembly to pass resolution on special status

The Andhra Pradesh assembly will pass a resolution urging the central government to accord special status to the state and to implement all provisions contained in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. The resolution moved by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in the assembly on Tuesday also appealed to the central government to take steps to fulfill the assurances given by then prime minister in parliament. Source: IANS

Sensex tanks 346 points in afternoon session

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), tanked further by 346.09 points or 1.32 percent during the afternoon session. The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 112.50 points or 1.41 percent down at 7,858.80 points. The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,127.04 points, was trading at 25,937 points (at 01.09 p.m.) in the afternoon session, down 346.09 points or 1.32 percent from the previous day's close at 26,283.09 points. Halt your rhetoric, Nitish tells Modi

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "stop the rhetoric (and) chest thumping", and deliver the promises he made ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. "Show moral courage. Accept insufficiencies in delivering on old promises," the Janata Dal-United leader said in a series of tweets, ahead of Modi's election rally in Bhagalpur. "Respect the sentiments of the people of Bihar who have been troubled by your unkept promises and unsavoury comments," he said. Source: IANS

'No change of guard in offing in Jammu and Kashmir'

There will be no change of guard in the Jammu and Kashmir government and Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed is not contemplating to hand over the baton to his daughter Mehbooba Mufti because of health reasons, sources said."Not true at all. Mufti sahib was in Mysore to attend a function. He is returning on 1 September 2015 and there is no truth in the rumours that there is a change of guard on the cards in the state," sources close to the chief minister said while categorically denying rumours and speculation about the matter. Manipur Riots: Indefinite Curfew Imposed

Houses of state Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and five lawmakers were set on fire during the protests in the Manipur state. The violence that erupted in Churachandpur town in Manipur over the passing of three bills in the assembly led to the death of three people. As a result of the arson, the administration has imposed indefinite curfew in the town.

Petrol cut by Rs.2 a litre, diesel by 50 paise

With global crude oil in free fall, Indian Oil Corp (IOC) has cut the prices of petrol by Rs.2 a litre and of diesel by 50 paise, both prices inclusive of levies in Delhi, with corresponding decrease in other states, effective from midnight. Petrol and diesel, prices of which were last reduced on August 15, will from 1 September 2015 cost Rs.61.20 a litre and Rs.44.45 respectively, in Delhi, IOC said.  Source: IANS
