01 September 2017 Current Events Mumbai building collapse: At least 34 dead

As rescue operations undergo day two, the Fire Brigade officials reported at least 34 people have lost their lives. This 117 year old building which collapsed in south Mumbai's congested Bhendi Bazaar was declared unsafe six years ago. As per reports, more than thirty people lost their lives and many have been rescued. However, many people are feared to be trapped under the debris of the collapsed building. Police is yet to determine the cause of the collapse. In the operation, six officials of the Fire department and one from the NDRF also suffered injuries. As per speculations, further damage to the ramshackle building could be attributed to the recent Mumbai rains. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the site of the collapse and has announced a compensation of Rs. 50,000 to the relatives of those who lost their lives.


PM Modi's cabinet to reshuffle before the Prime Minister leaves for BRICS in China

Ahead of the upcoming national elections, PM Modi's cabinet is likely to undergo a reshuffle. As the Prime Minister will leave for BRICS Summit on 5 September, the major reshuffle is likely to take place on Saturday. Four Union Ministers - Uma Bharti, Raiv Pratap Rudy, Radha Mohan Singh and Sanjeev Balyan have already resigned from their respective offices. These ministers had resigned on Friday after the BJP chief Amit Shah met senior ministers at his Delhi residence. Arun Jaitely, who is currently holding the charge of two ministries- Finance as well as Defense, is likely to shed one of the two. On Thursday, Narendra Nath Pandey was appointed Uttar Pradesh BJPs Chief. In this mega reshuffle, two new faces from Bihar's JDU are likely to join Prime Minister Modi's brigade.
