As per recent news updates, Ashish Shelar the School Education Minister on Monday, July 1, 2019 during the late hours of the day confirmed that Tuesday, June 2, 2019 will be a public holiday for all schools in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Palghar. Reason reported by the news agencies is the heavy rainfall which was witnessed in Mumbai and Thane throughout the day and night. Meanwhile,16 people died due to this violent rainfall. According to officials of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), around 13 people lost their lives due to a wall collapse. The wall fell on a few hutments that were built on a hill slope of Kurar village in Malad East. This tragic event was informed to NDRF and MFB around 1:00 am on Tuesday, after which they rushed towards the spot of mishap. A similar mishap in Pune due to heavy rain killed 15 people recently.
