02 June 2020 Current Events Mumbai on Red Alert as Cyclone "Nisarga" is Expected to Hit the State of Maharashtra on Wednesday
Mumbai and its neighbouring districts are on red alert as cyclone "Nisarga" is expected to hit Maharashtra on Wednesday. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has placed nine teams in assailable districts - two in Palghar, three in Mumbai, one in Thane, one in Raigad, one in Sindhudurg and one in Ratnagiri. Further, the NDRF team is keeping a well connect with the Maharashtra government's relief and rehabilitation department, district administration and official authorities. Survey is being conducted in coastal areas of these districts along with local authorities. On the matter, NDRF Director-General SN Pradhan said that "Nisarga" is a severe cyclone and a wind speed of 90-100 kmph is expected. Evacuation near the coastal areas is also being carried out in both Maharashtra and Gujarat. Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey through video conferencing and reviewed the state's preparedness.
