Massive fire breaks out at 250+ shanties in Gurugram village

Over 250 shanties in a slum of Gurugram alias Gurgaon’s Kherki Daula village caught fire this afternoon. While 12 fire tenders have been rushed to take control over the fire, no casualties have been reported so far. With some of the shanties got trapped by fire at around 12 noon, others caught the flames after small LPG cylinders, kept inside the shanties, blasted off. Fire officer Sukhbir Singh has not confirmed the real reason behind the fire and has called for a detailed inquiry into the accident.

Delhi-Faizabad Express derails in Hapur

Eight coaches of Delhi-Faizabad Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur with about 15 passengers receiving major injuries. The ADG Railways Anil Saxena said the derailment took place between Garhmukteshwar and Kankather stations of the Moradabad Division of Northern Railways, immediately after 9:00 p.m. The injured were rushed to hospitals in Ghaziabad, Meerut and Hapur with no casualties reported from the site.

IIT hostels to go fully air-conditioned

After witnessing a fee hike, IIT students are now looking forward to brand new hostels which would be centrally air conditioned. The human resource ministry has planned to modernize all IIT hostels including air-conditioned common areas and state-of-the-art kitchens. Presently, a whopping 80,000 students are enrolled in 18 IITs with five more in the pipeline.

Sensex slides by 200+ points, unaffected by ICICI selloff

A continuous selloff in banking stocks pulled down the BSE Sensex along with Nifty. While Sensex fell over 200 points below 25,400 levels, the Nifty traded below its key 7,800 levels. Private lender ICICI Bank reported its Q4 earnings, detailing the corporate exposure post markets on 29 April 2016. The bank also said 4.8 per cent of its assets fall in below-investment grade.
