Army keeps on fighting the militants along the LoC in Keran sector of Kashmir even on ninth day

The army continued its operation of neutralizing the trained militant group, 40 in number, even for the ninth day in a heavy gun battle along the LoC in Keran sector of Kashmir in rough terrain. What has sustained the militants is the continuous supply of arms and ammunition from a Pakistani army post in proximity to the LoC which has enabled them to keep on the attack. In fact it is being stated this is the longest duration since Kargil when the army is involved in a gun battle for so many days. In other situations the militants retreat when their supplies are depleted but not in this case. So it is being termed not just as infiltration but as BAT (Border Action Team) action cum infiltration. Moreover, the militants are large in number and the way they are engaging in the gun battle it appears they have been specially trained. Army also dismissed the reports which state that militants had got control over a border Indian village or posts. Five Indian troopers have lost their lives and 10-12 militants have been killed in the operation which started on 24th September. The army has spotted around 40 militants belonging to LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Hijbul Mujahideen and Al Badr. The army intelligence specifies that Pakistani army has coordinated a training camp for BAT members opposite to the Mendhar sector in the Pakistan side of the LoC. It was BAT troops who had unleashed attack on the Mendhar sector and beheaded two soldiers and were also responsible for the killing of five soldiers in Poonch. Currently there are 42 training camps in PoK and 22 are in proximity to the LoC.

Google to bring 360 degree view of 100 monuments in India

The Archaeological Survey of India and Google have collaborated to bring 360 degree view of 100 monuments in India. To map the same data is being collated and once this is completed it would go live. This will enable the web users to do a virtual tour of the monuments. The list includes one of the wonders of the world, Taj Mahal. Google has finished mapping the Qutub Minar and will next take up the Humayun's Tomb.

The 360-degree imagery of a monument requires a span of 7 to 10 days. A special tool, Street View Trekker is being used for this purpose. It includes a camera mounted on a backpack so that someone who treks can get into places where Google's Street View cars cannot get in. Google had earlier partnered with the museums in India and has showcased the famous paintings exhibited there. The date of the recent project will be up for view at Google Maps and the World Wonders Site.
