Indonesia to launch satellite from India

Indonesia is set to launch a locally made satellite from India on September 27, a media report said.The LAPAN A2/Orari satellite was produced entirely in Indonesia by the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) in 2012. It is a successor to LAPAN A1/Tubsat, which was launched in India in 2007, The Jakarta Post reported. “Today, I’m officially sending off the LAPAN A2/Orari satellite,” said President Joko Widodo during the launch ceremony. 100 entries for fourth round of bike races

Nearly 100 entrants will line up on various grids in the fourth round of the MMSC-FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship that gets underway on Saturday at the MMRT track, celebrating its silver jubilee year. The busy weekend will see as many as 20 races spread over Saturday and Sunday. Mercedes-Benz launches AMG C63S in India

German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has launched the new AMG C63S in India at prices starting from Rs.1.3 crore (ex-showroom price Delhi). The car is a powerful high-end rear-wheel drive sports car powered by a 4 litre V8 bi-turbo engine, developing an output of 375 kW (510 hp) making the V8 model the most powerful car in its segment. "In terms of output, torque and fuel consumption, the C63S takes the peak position in its segment. It once again demonstrates Mercedes-Benz's technological leadership in the high-performance segment," managing director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India Eberhard Kern said in a statement. Source: IANS

Bodo militant gunned down in Assam

Security forces have gunned down a hardcore militant of Bodo insurgent outfit NDFB involved in the killing of Adivasis in Assam's Kokrajhar district, the military said. Bhaigo Boro alias B. Bilaigra was shot dead by a joint team of Assam Police and the army deployed in Kokrajhar, defence spokesman Lt. Col. Suneet Newton said. Source: IANS

Twitter launches self-service ad platform in India

Micro-blogging site Twitter has launched a self-service advertising platform for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in India, the social networking service announced. Twitter has expanded the platform reach of Twitter ads globally from 33 countries to over 200 countries and territories. "Now, SMBs from India to Iceland can more effectively reach their target audiences on Twitter in 15 languages. In addition, Twitter also announced the total active advertisers, including SMBs to be approximately 100,000," the company said in a statement. Source: IANS

India, UAE to set up joint business council

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the UAE last month, India's historic ties with the Gulf nation are poised to go to a new level with the setting up of a joint business council (JBC) later. The announcement was made by secretary in the external affairs ministry Anil Wadhwa at the India-UAE business meet jointly organised by the ministry and the Confederation of Indian Industry that is currently underway. "India and the UAE will sign an agreement later in the day for setting up a joint business council for stronger economic ties and growth of bilateral business," Wadhwa said. Source: IANS

Climate change a major concern: Modi

Terming climate change as the "pressing global challenge", Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said nature, forests, trees and the well being of all beings play a great role in the teachings of Lord Buddha. Speaking at 'Samvad, the global Hindu-Buddhist initiative on conflict avoidance and environment consciousness' here, the prime minister said the poor people were most affected by climate change. Deadline for filing tax returns extended till September 7

The Finance Ministry has said the last date for filing income tax returns has been extended till September 7, thus extending the earlier deadline of August 31. "Due date for filing Income Tax return extended till September 7, 2015," the finance ministry tweeted. The last date for filing had already been extended earlier to August 31 from the usual deadline of July 31 . Source: IANS

Violence escalates in Manipur as mob set ablaze education office

Violence escalated in Manipur's riot-hit Churachandpur district as an unruly mob set ablaze the zonal education office, an official said. There was no immediate report of any casualty. The protest against the Congress-led government in Manipur also spilled over in New Delhi, with students under the banner of Manipur Tribal Students in Delhi demanded the imposition of President's Rule in the state.
