In a landmark achievement by the Indian Space Research Organisation Research (ISRO) scientists, the landing module comprising Vikram, the lander, and Pragyan, the rover, were successfully separated from Chandrayaan-2 orbiter on Monday, September 2, 2019. Both Vikram and Pragyan have started their journey towards soft landing on the Moon. Vikram is expected to reach the lunar surface on September 7, 2019. While the orbiter will circle around the Moon for the next one year, the lander would be the first craft to land near south pole of the Moon. It would be a rare feat which has not been achieved by any other nation.
