03 September 2020 Current Events PUBG MOBILE Banned in India Amid Chinese Provocation in Ladakh

PUBG, one of the most popular online shooting games, is now banned in India. PUBG Mobile is now among the 118 Chinese apps blocked by the government on Wednesday amid the tension over fresh Chinese provocation in Ladakh. PUBG Mobile ranks among the world’s top five smartphone games with over 734 million downloads. There are over 50 million active PUBG players in India as per the reports, and the game clocks in some 13 million daily users. As per the IT ministry, the move has taken in the interest of India’s sovereignty and integrity, defence, and security. The IT ministry also said that "the decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security, and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace." PUBG, aka PlayerUnknownBattleGround features a hunger Game-style competition in which 100 players face off with automatic weapons until there is only one left. The government first banned 59 mobile apps, including Bytedance’s TikTok, Alibaba’s UC Browser, and Tencent’s WeChat, also citing security concerns.
