Pakistani officials visit injured prisoner

Pakistani diplomats paid a visit to the Chandigarh hospital where the comatose Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullah Ranjay is admitted and in treatment after being assaulted by a prisoner in a Jammu jail. The diplomats will get consular access once daily.

External affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted, "Pakistani officials had consular access to Sanaullah Ranjay and also met attending doctors in Chandigarh".

The Pakistan High Commission stated their diplomats visited Ranjay at 3 a.m. on Saturday and also met the hospital medical board. It further added, the doctors "have given a very pessimistic prognosis of Ranjay's recovery or survival and rule out prospects of his medical evacuation".

In the statement, it was also specified that Sanaullah received "multiple brutal assaults of unspeakable savagery in the Jammu jail, which is a matter of deep concern".

Railway Minister Bansal's nephew arrested for bribery

The Congress-led UPA government now has another issue to tackle since on Saturday the nephew of Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal was sent to CBI custody after he was arrested for taking Rs.90 lakh in bribe from a senior railway official. This has led the opposition asking for the minister's sacking.

Bansal expressed his innocence specifying he was not aware of his nephew Vijay Singla's activities even as opposition parties asked for a thorough investigation into recent postings and award of contracts in the railway ministry, which the Congress has come to lead for the first time in decades.

With the opposition still stressing on Law Minister Ashwani Kumar's removal for his controversial role in the coal block allocation issue, the Congress core group had a meeting at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence in the evening to have a discussion regarding the sticky situation.

A court has given four days police custody to Singla and Goyal. The other two accused are Dharmendra Kumar and Vivek Kumar. There is the fifth accused known as  Manjunath, who acted as a liaison.

India's Railway Board supervises top network, $11.5 bn budget

India's Railway Board supervises and manages what is the world's top five railroad networks and one of the largest employers, with an estimated 1.4 million people employed in it.

The board, comprising the chairman, has seven members, each having a specific domain of operation, and they report directly to the Railways minister. The members supervise domains like mechanical, traffic, engineering, electrical and staff. There is a finance commissioner as well.

The Railway Board was set up in 1901 and its powers were specified four years later. The officers now are members of the Indian Railway Personnel Services - a Class A civil service under the Union Public Service Commission.

All decisions entailing to its large budget, to the tune of Rs.63,363 crore (Rs.633.63 billion or $11.5 billion) for the current fiscal, is channelized through it.

Railways is the only ministry that has a separate annual budget since 1920.

Railway network spans over 64,000 route km with 7,083 stations, to carry 23 million travellers and 2.65 million tonnes of goods daily on 12,000 passenger and 7,000 freight trains.

Ayushmann to sing for YRF

Ayushmann Khurrana, who has given hit songs like "Paani da rang" and "Saddi galli aaja" in his films, informed he would be singing for one number in a new movie produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF).

Ayushmann sang one song in his debut film Vicky Donor and  in Nautanki Saala he sang two numbers - "Saadi galli" and "Tu hi tu". Now, he is preparing for his new song in the YRF romantic comedy, which also has Sonam Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor in the cast along with him, and is directed by Nupur Asthana.

He also informed that his next movie is based on recession.

Gambhir, Yuvraj out of Champions Trophy squad

Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh did not find place in India's 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy.

Left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan, who last played an ODI in June 2011, was included in the team while wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, who can also open the batting, was called after almost three years.

The surprise selection is the other opener in the squad, Murali Vijay, as the right-hander last played an ODI against South Africa in January 2011 and is yet to score a fifty in his 11 matches in the format.

Yuvraj, who returned to the game last year after battling a rare form of lung cancer, was not selected for the middle-order with selectors preference going to the right-handed batsman Rohit Sharma.

The Indian Squad is: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, R. Vinay Kumar.

Google Hangouts now comes with Remote Desktop feature

Now it will be possible for someone to technically assist their family or friends remotely through Google Hangout.

Hangouts Remote Desktop enables a person to take control of another system through the chat service. But one could get remote access on someone else’s computer only with the permission of the person who requires help. What is more is that they can simulataneously carry on the conversation and see each other.

In the chat utility itself this app will be there which the user has to select from View More Apps icon. Once the request for providing help is accepted by the recipient the session will continue till it is not ended.
