Stampede in Patna, 32 people killed

A stampede shortly after Dussehra celebrations at the Gandhi Maidan, Patna killed 32 people including 20 women and 10 children yesterday. The incident occurred near the Exhibition Road when people were returning to their homes after watching 'Ravan Vadh'. The injured were taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2 lakh and Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi Rs 3 lakh to the kin of dead. As per media reports, rumours that a high tension electric wire has fallen on the ground led to the panic as people started jostling to get out of the place.

RSS chief's Vijayadashmi live telecast on DD draws criticism

An hour long Vijayadashmi address by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat that was aired live on Doordarshan has been criticised by political parties. The Congress and the CPI-M blamed the BJP government for misusing the platform. The BJP responded by saying that the event was newsworthy as covered by many other private news channels. 

Amazon chief executive Jeffrey P Bezos calls on PM Modi

The chief executive of the world's largest e-commerce site Amazon, Jeffrey P Bezos called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amazon has already confirmed the investment of USD 2 billion in India. Amazon which is in the process of evaluating the location wanted to set up a data centre in India to unwind the multi-billion cloud possibilities. Bezos said that India is one of the fastest growing markets and the speed with which Internet is penetrating in the country is amazing. He has also been visiting different cities in India.

India and Pakistan should play more matches – Sardar Singh

Captain of the winning Indian hockey team Sardar Singh said that India and Pakistan should play more matches as the game is enjoyed by both the countries and must be played for the promotion of the game. In a press conference, Sardar Singh said that he always enjoyed playing against Pakistan and this time also it was an exciting final match in Asian Games. He praised Shakeel Abbasi and Haseem Khan asexcellent players.

Adoption rate on rise but broadband speed is still low in India – A report

Akamai Technologies, an Internet content delivery network based in US, in its Q2r 'State of the Internet' report stated that global Internet speed has gone up by 21 percent at 4.6 Mbps. Whereas in India the speed is at 2 Mbps which is not even half of the global speed. The global level maximum speed of an average connection is 25.4 Mbps and in India it is 14.4 Mbps. Average mobile Internet speed in Japan is 5.7 Mbps and in India it is 1.4 Mbps. The report also stated that adoption rate of broadband services in India has increased by 5 times since the Q2 in 2012.

PM Narendra Modi hits the election campaign trail in Haryana

During his election campaign in Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the state the land of “Daanveer Karn” and a holy land on which the battle of Mahabharata was fought and message of Gita was delivered. He told people that if they want a change, development, overall progress, employment then they have to vote for the BJP and make it win with absolute majority. He even mentioned his days at Haryana as a party worker. Modi added that he wanted to payback the debt of love and affection that he received that time. The PM also talked about different schemes started by the Centre for the development of the country.

The 90-member Haryana Assembly elections are due on October 15.
