A portion of the Majerhat bridge in south Kolkata has collapsed today taking down many vehicles with it. There are speculations that several people have been trapped under the debris. The ambulances and rescue teams have arrived at the incident spot. So far six people are admitted in the hospital.
With Reserve Bank of India's latest figures raising allegations on notes ban, NITI Aayog VC Rajiv Kumar has insisted that the move wasn't a failure. "It (the ban) was needed to reintroduce probity, integrity in our social and economic system", he said. When questioned if he would recommend demonetization again, the Vice Chairman responded in affirmative, saying he would do it any day "to cleanse my economy, to formalize it". The allegations came pouring in after the latest RBI report said that about 99% banned notes are now back in system.
Nearly 12 people have died and around 3000 people have been displaced due to the floods and heavy rain which hit the state of Nagaland. Around 50,000 people and over 530 villages have been cut-off and road communication are snapped in Nagaland.
