04 September 2020 Current Events Health Ministry: Only 2.03% of the Active Cases Requires Intensive Care Unit

Recent data released by the health ministry shows that only 3.5% of the active cases or those still improving from COVID-19 in the country are on ventilator support. A little over 2.03% of the patients require admission to an intensive care unit. On the matter, the health ministry said that "this is due to early detection, early hospitalization, and effective clinical management based on the standard treatment protocol." As of now, India stands at 815,000 active COVID-19 cases in India. Yesterday, i.e., Thursday, India reported 83,507 new Coronavirus disease cases, taking the country's total to 4 million cases. States like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu account for 62% of the country's active cases. Moreover, over 1,000 deaths have been reported across the country within three consecutive days, taking the country's fatality to over 68,000. Despite the worsening condition, the government is still reopening the economy. Union health secretary Rajesh Bhusan said that "The government has adopted a graded approach to open up various economic activities. It is not as if suddenly everything has been opened up …".
