05 April 2016 Current Events Government to focus on consolidation of PSBs

Today, India’s Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the government would be emphasising on the consolidation of the public sector banks once they have been recapitalised and strengthened. While speaking at an event organized by IFC, Mr. Jaitley also announced that the government will be unveiling a roadmap for effective consolidation of public sector banks (PSBs) which are likely to receive an infusion of Rs. 25,000 crore in this financial year.


Indian women suffer losses in Hawke's Bay Cup

Indian women’s hockey team suffered a narrow 1-2 loss against World No.5 China in the last pool B match of the Hawke’s Bay Cup. Rani- an Indian hockey player gave her team a lead in the 19th minute after a goal-less first quarter. Yu Quian- a Chinese hockey player scored the equaliser for China in the third quarter with Wang Mengyu hitting a new goal in the final quarter.


Petrol price raised by Rs. 2.19/litre & Diesel by 98 paise

From mid-night, the new price hike of Rs. 2.19/litre and Rs. 98 paise/litre would be applicable on Petrol and Diesel respectively. Petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs. 61.87 per litre as against the previous price of Rs. 59.68 per litre. Similarly, a litre of diesel will now be available at a price of Rs. 49.31 as opposed to the previous price of Rs. 48.33/litre.


Kohli chosen as the captain of ICC World T20 XI

India’s finest batsman Virat Kohli has been named captain of the ICC World Twenty20 XI. Denying selection of current skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the authorities have selected Kohli and veteran seamer Ashish Nehra in the ICC XI as compared to choosing four Indian players in the previous edition held in Bangladesh. This years ICC World Twenty20 had Kohli as the Man of the Tournament, scoring 273 runs with an average of 136.50 and a strike-rate of 146.77 with three 50 plus scores.
