Rains lash Uttarakhand again


Uttarakhand seems to be the soft target for nature’s fury. Again there was a high alert on Monday after there were predictions for heavy to very heavy rains added to the three days continuous downpour which paralyzed Dehradun. The Alaknanda river washed away a major part of the main wall of the 8th century 'math', founded by Adi Shankara. Torrential downpour has affected Dehradun, Haridwar, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and other districts in the hills. This has put a stop to the rehabilitation operation in the state already affected by Himalayan Tsunami in the month of June. Those staying near the river banks have been asked to move to the safer places.

90 to 100 mm of rains is predicted in Dehradun and the place has already received 82 mm rains in a day. Uttarkashi has got 81.6 mm of rains. Ganga is flowing above the danger mark in Dev Prayag (458.45 m), Rishikesh (338.96 m) and Haridwar (292.7 m).

Akhilesh supports IAS officer's suspension, PM states rule book will be followed


Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav fails to understand why media is so much bothered about the suspension of Durga Shakti Nagpal, the IAS officer. He also defended the decision and said that any officer who has done wrong has to be punished and her suspension was in accordance with the rule book followed for the Indian Administrative Services for its cadre. He further added that Nagpal was suspended as her move could have incited communal tensions in the state whereas it is alleged that Nagpal cracked down on sand mafia and so she was suspended. Earlier the PM stated that rules will be complied in Nagpal’s case and that the center is in constant touch with the state government.

Spicejet records 10% slump in net profit


SpiceJet, the budget carrier has registered a 10% slump in net profit for the Q1 of this fiscal and is now at Rs. 50.55 crore from Rs. 62.44 crore in the same period of 2012-13. Though there has been 16.20% increase in the total income and it is now at Rs. 1,704.30 crore compared to Rs. 1,466.69 crore reported in the similar period last financial year. The net sales increased by 19.56% that is Rs. 1,688.47 crore compared to Rs. 1,412.16 crore in the like period of 2012-13. The management thinks that in the backdrop of weak rupee and increasing costs of fuel the performance is satisfactory. The average passenger yields rose by 5%. Spicejet occupied 19.50% in June, 2013 from 18.60% of the market shares in the similar period of 2012.

Ajit Chandila shocked with MCOCA charges


Ajit Chandila, the cricketer from Rajasthan Royals who was indicted in IPL spot fixing scandal expressed shock that Delhi Police have imposed the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) charges on him. He stated he was a cricketer and not a terrorist and should be treated accordingly. Chandila was released on a three day bail on Monday. He had been granted this bail to complete his elder brother’s last rites. He said his brother was hospitalized when he was arrested and that his family has endured a lot in this period which he did not want should happen to anyone else. Chandila, S. Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan, were arrested in a raid by Delhi Police on May 16 midnight in Mumbai. Sreesanth and Chavan got bail in June but Chandila did not. Chandila stated that no bookie has approached him.

Salman to shoot for "Oh Teri"


Salman Khan has ultimately managed to include the dates to shoot for a guest appearance for "Oh Teri" which is Atul Agnihotri's next. Salman will be shooting after he completes shooting for "Kick". Atul Agnihotri who is also the son-in-law of Salman Khan stated that the actor is very organized and will shoot for his movie by October or November. The movie’s 80% shooting is completed and is said to be based on a totally different concept. Atul has earlier directed movies like "Hello" and "Bodyguard".

Airtel to bring 4G services to Delhi


Bharti Airtel is all geared up to offer 4G services in Delhi after providing the same facility in Kolkata, Pune, Bangalore and Chandigarh. For this Huawei will help the operator to build the 4G network in Delhi. 4G services will be launched in Delhi by September. Airtel recently announced 31% slash on 4G data tariffs to increase data usage and attract users to opt for its 4G service. Airtel had acquired spectrum for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) that is high speed broadband in 2010 in zones like Kolkata, Punjab, Maharashtra and Karnataka and for that it had paid Rs 3,314.36 crore. The company also received 49% share in Qualcomm Inc, the US telecom giant’s 4G venture in India and thus got hold in Mumbai, Delhi, Haryana and Kerala circles.
