Government has decided to give away face masks to school children due to heavy smog in Delhi's air. Right after Diwali, the pollution in Delhi has shoot up to as high as 743 particles of PM2.5 per cubic meter on the air quality index. As per Central Pollution Control Board, emergency measures will be taken if the condition lasts more than 48 hours such as halting construction work, shutting schools, banning trucks from entering the city. Further, Delhi has implemented its third edition of Odd-Even schemes since November 4 to curb pollution. The excessive pollution in most of the northern cities is the result of crop burning in the state of Punjab and Haryana.
