06 December 2014 Current Events West Bengal Industries minister Amit Mitra is likely to attend meet as CM Bannerjee refused to take part

As per media report, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to attend a meet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Most likely State Industries Minister Amit Mitra will attend the meeting at her place to discuss the future of the Planning Commission. This decision clearly indicates that she is unwilling to meet PM Modi and his party. Trinamool and BJP relationships have been deteriorating since Lok Sabha elections, but now becoming obvious and clear.


PM Modi addresses a poll rally in Jharkhand

Addressing an election rally in Hazaribagh district Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked voters of Jharkhand to vote for the development of the state. He then talked about the terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and called these a very shameful act for democracy. The terror attack killed twenty-one people including eight soldiers and one from Jharkhand. After paying tribute to the one who got killed, he added that only development can take Jharkhand in a forward direction. Jharkhand has the ability to come out as an economic power because of coal and forest reserves.


DGCA takes stringent steps against Spicejet

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) while taking a tough stand against Spicejet asked the airline to clear salary dues in the next 10 days. Spicejet is struggling to survive and canceling large number of its flights. As per media report DGCA chief Prabhat Kumar in a series of actions asked the airline to submit a schedule for clearing its more than 1,500 crore dues by December 15. DGCA also withdrew 186 slots and asked Spicejet not to do any booking for coming 30 days. At the same time it must refund the booking amount to customers.


Apple to open 500 iStores in India

To increase its reach, Apple is planning to open 500 iStores across India. Smartphone market in India is growing at a very fast pace and this decision might give Apple a great push in India. Earlier Apple's main focus in Asia used to be China, Japan and Korea. But the demand for iPhone6 in India might have aroused the company's interest in Indian market. Apple is leading and ahead of Samsung in premium smartphone market in India by having 55.3% share.


In Maharashtra portfolio allocation, BJP keeps major departments

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assigned portfolios to his twenty-member council including 10 members of the Shiv Sena. Keeping no post for the Deputy Chief Minister, Fadnavis gave important portfolios like New and Renewable Energy, Water Supply and Sanitation, Social Justice and Special Assistance to the BJP ministers in his cabinet. The Industries portfolio that was earlier held by the BJP has now given to Subhash Desai of the Shiv Sena. The Transport portfolio has been given to Sena leader Diwakar Raote.


Delhi is all set for three days IPTL

Delhi for the next three days is going to witness the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL). The IPTL that started in Manilla last week has a very fast-paced and a shorter format. This year four teams named Manila Mavericks, Singapore Slammers, Indian Aces and UAE Royals will participate in the competition. 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer who is a part of the Indian Aces team will also play and expected to reach Capital on Saturday. Apart from him Delhi will also welcome other players, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Lleyton Hewitt, Tomas Berdych, Ana Ivanovic and Pete Sampras.
