Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam filed case against Smriti Irani

Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam has filed a defamation case against union minister Smriti Irani. A court has now issued summon and she has to appear before court. As per media report Nirupam said that Irani had made derogatory remarks while taking part in TV debate which has impacted his reputation. It is a punishable offence. Nirupam’s advocate R.K. Handoo has filed the case on his client’s behalf. Handoo said that his client has undergone a huge mental stress apart from a dent on his reputation.

Air India's Dreamliner for direct flight to Italy

With its recent acquisition of Boeing 787 Dreamliner, India’s largest passenger carrier Air India has started direct flights to Italy with a capacity to fly 18 business class and 238 economy passengers. As per media report operations will cover three destinations in a triangular route including flight from Delhi to Rome and Milan. The Delhi-Milan-Rome-Delhi flight will take place three times a week and the Delhi-Rome-Milan-Delhi flight will function four days in a week.

A 21-member women's Hockey team selected for tour Malaysia

To take part in tour Malaysia from June 7-17, a 21-member women's Hockey team has been announced by Hockey India (HI). The team will have Midfielder Ritu Rani as the captain and defender Deepika as the vice-captain. The tour will be a preparatory effort for the team to take part in the Commonwealth and the Asian Games. The players have been selected during their selection trials at Patiala on May 23-24 by HI selectors B.P. Govinda, Harbinder Singh and Surinder Kaur, coach Neil Hawgood and scientific advisor Matthew Tredrea as per media report.

Clash between SGPC volunteers and activists inside the Golden Temple

A violent clash between task force volunteers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and activists of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) at the Golden Temple complex resulted in the injury of 10 people including a child. Both the parties fought outside the Akal Takht and were chasing one another with open swords and sticks. Activists tried to control the public address system but opposed by SGPC task force. As per media report the environment around temple is very tense and gave curfew-like look. At the time of incident president Avtar Singh Makkar and Akal Takht Jathedar Gurbachan Singh were present inside the temple.

Sisodia's letter to Yadav leaked

AAP leader Manish Sisodia wrote a letter to his colleague Yogendra Yadav which was leaked. In his letter Sisoda condemned Yadav for making Yadav’s fight with party member Naveen Jaihind public. It is tarnishing the image of the party. Not only this but he also dragged party chief Arvind Kejriwal in the matter. Sisodia hold Yadav and other members of the party responsible for the defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party in Lok Sabha elections. Yadav resigned from political affairs committee's (PAC) on May 31.

BJP leader and MP from Indore Sumitra Mahajan elected Speaker of the 16th Lok Sabha

BJP leader and MP from Indore Sumitra Mahajan is a new Speaker of the 16th Lok Sabha who has been elected unanimously on Friday as per media report. After Meira Kumar, Mahajan is the second woman Speaker of Lok Sabha. Her name was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and backed by L.K. Advani, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and many others. Prime Minister congratulated Mahajan and said it is matter of pride to have woman as Speaker. Her experience and supervision will be precious.
