06 June 2016 Current Events PM Modi in Switzerland; to discuss black money, NSG membership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Switzerland on the third leg of his five-nation tour. He is expected to talk about the issues of black money stashed in the country and India's membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). Modi will discuss the issues with Swiss Confederation's president Johann Schneider-Amman.


Gulberg case: Court to pronounce quantum of punishment today

A special Ahmedabad court, which convicted 24 of the 66 accused in the 2002 Gulberg society riots case, will award the quantum of punishment today. Special Court Judge P.B. Desai convicted 24 of the 66 accused, including a VHP leader, in the case on 2 June. As many as 36 others, including sitting BJP corporator Bipin Patel, were acquitted and charges of conspiracy dropped against all accused. The massacre, which followed closely after the Godhra riots, claimed 69 people including one former Congress MP, Ahsan Jafri.
