President inaugurated secretariat in Naya Raipur

President Pranab Mukherjee on his visit to Naya Raipur, the new capital of Chhattisgarh, inaugurated the Capitol Complex, that will function as the administrative capital of the state. It will house the secretariat and offices of heads of all government departments. Naya Raipur, at a distance of 20 km south-east of Raipur city, became capital of Chattisgarh on Nov 1. A huge project initiated by the Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA), Naya Raipur is sprawled across 80.13 sq km and will house 560,000 inhabitants by 2031.

Two mosquito species responsible for dengue detected

South Delhi Municipal Corporation has identified two species of mosquitoes,Aedes Albopictus and Aedes Aegypty, which are responsible for the spurt in dengue cases in the capital as per N.K. Yadav, municipal health officer of south Delhi's civic body.There is constant increase in the number of dengue cases, and the city has experienced more than 1,000 cases this year and three loss of lives. Aegypty species of mosquitoes can be controlled by fumigation while Albopictus which develops outside is more tough to control. The symptoms of the disease are the same from both the species of mosquito.

India, Canada ink agreement on social security, IT

India and Canada Tuesday signed an agreement on social security. This was along with the MoUs on cooperation in information technology and electronics and for joint research and development cooperation in defense science and technology.The agreements were signed after discussions between the visiting Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at New Delhi.The agreement on social security ensures that double social security contributions can be avoided by "detached workers". These are employees who under the legislation of a country are sent by their employers to work in another country.This would ensure "portability of contributions" or moving the social security contribution at the time of relocation, and adding the periods of contribution for analyzing eligibility to a benefit.Canada has number of people of Indian origin which, according to 2001 figures, was over 850,000.An MoU on collaboration in information communication technology and electronics was also signed between India's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Canada's Department of Industry.

Three satellite towns for Kolkata

Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has earmarked three locations for its proposed satellite township project on the city suburbs.KMDA is the statutory planning and development body for the Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA).The proposed satellite townships will be at Baruipur (South 24 Parganas), Chandannagar (Hooghly) and Barrackpore (North 24 Parganas) and the projects arescheduled for completion by 2025.

Tendulkar awarded with Order of Australia

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was presented with the Order of Australia by Simon Crean, Minister for Regional Australia, at a felicitation ceremony in Mumbai on Tuesday.Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard had earlier announced about conferring this honor to the maestro on her visit to India last month. Tendulkar is only the third Indian to receive the honor after Mother Teresa and former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee. Tendulkar shared his experience of playing against Australia and stated,"They are fierce competitors who play well and hard. But they also shower you with praises when you do well. And my favourite ground away from home is Sydney."He also recapped his maiden tour in 1991-92 in Australia which he said completely changed him as a cricketer.

Ajay, Vijay and SRK set for big tussle on Diwali day down south

The box office in south India will see three big releases that of - Bollywood stars Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan and southern star Vijay - competing for the top spot. The movies are "Son of Sardaar", "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" and Tamil action-thriller "Thuppakki" respectively. All three release on Nov 13. Vijay, is eyeing for a third consecutive hit with "Thuppakki" after the success of his last two films - 'Velayutham' and 'Nanban'. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh will be a tough competition to Vijay as his last two films 'Ra.One' and 'Don 2' were equally successful in Tamil Nadu. Ajay, who joined the Rs.100-crore club recently with "Singham" and "Bol Bachchan", also is a good competitor.

Nokia Asha 201 available at Rs. 3,990

Nokia Asha 201, the entry level smartphone is now available in India through online shopping site Snapdeal, at Rs. 3,990. It is also listed on Flipkart, without the details on pricing and availability.The Nokia Asha 201 was launched last month along with the Asha 200, 300, 303 phones. The smartphone measures 115.5 x 61.1 x 14 mm and weighs 105 gm. It has a QWERTY keyboard with a 2.4-inch TFT display with 320 x 240 pixels resolution.Other features include a 2MP camera, 10MB internal storage, microSD card slot that supports 32GB storage, 32MB of RAM and 64MB of ROM. The device supports GPRS, Bluetooth and USB. It comes with a 1,430 mAh battery, which offers 7 hours of talk time and 888 hours of standby time.
