06 November 2019 Current Events Cyclone Maha Hits Gujarat Coast, Where Bulbul is Set to Hit Bay of Bengal

Cyclone Maha started to recurve towards the Gujarat coast. Till Tuesday, the cyclone was lying at 740 km west-southwest of Diu and 660 km west-southwest of Porbandar and categorised as an "extremely severe cyclonic storm". As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone is to make landfall near Diu early on November 7. The regional director of IMD, Jayanta Sarkar stated that "probable damage will be less compared to earlier estimates". Some of the districts which are expected to receive rainfall are Ahmedabad, Anand, Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Botad, Porbandar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Surat, Bharuch, Junagadh, Gir Somnath along with Union Territory of Diu.

On the other hand, a depression formed over Bay of Bengal is all set to escalate into a cyclone (will be named Bulbul), leading to widespread rainfall. The depression has locomoting westwards, adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal and north Andaman Sea. Odisha government has  put nearly 15 districts on red alert as a flood-like situation is expected soon.
