06 September 2017 Current Events Lucknow Metro halts for nearly an hour on its debut run

Lucknow Metro was inaugurated by UP Chief Minister Adityanath and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday. However, the Lucknow Metro halted on its debut run for nearly an hour. More than 500 passengers were stuck in the Lucknow Metro for over an hour at Alambagh Station due to technical snag triggering panic among commuters. According to media reports, passengers were evacuated and they complained of suffocation, high temperatures and no air conditioning. The rescue team took over twenty minutes to reach the spot to check the fault. As per the officials of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC), the train bears some fault in its traction.


Air India Express veers off in Kochi, all safe

The incident occurred in wee hours on Tuesday when the Abu Dhabi-Kochi Air India Express IX 452 approached the parking bay from the taxiway. As per the sources, the aeroplane skidded off its taxiway into the nearby drain and the passengers were evacuated through the front door. The Director General of Civil Aviation informed that none of the 102 passengers were hurt. As per the airport sources, the incident occurred due to poor visibility in heavy rains. 


Uttar Pradesh to set up metro corporation to expand transit to other cities

While inaugurating the maiden run of the Lucknow Metro on Tuesday along with the Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the Chief Minister of U.P. Yogi Adityanath announced that in order to start metro services in various cities of Utttar Pradesh, the U.P. Government will constitute Uttar Pradesh Metro Corporation. The UP Metro Corporation is likely to explore the possibilities of mono rail in some parts of Uttar Pradesh. The public services of the metro will start from Wednesday. While former chief minister of U.P., Akhilesh Yadav tweeted on Monday, “we had run engine, bogies had to follow” in order to claim their government's credit for the metro services.
