06 September 2018 Current Events Telangana assembly dissolved; Governor accepts resolution

The weeks-long suspense has finally come to an end, with the Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao dissolving the Telangana state assembly this afternoon. The CM, also popularly known as KCR, has recommended early elections for the state. His party (TRS) has already announced candidates for the next polls. While the governor of Telangana has accepted the dissolving, asking KRS to continue as the caretaker CM for the present, BJP has urged the Governor to impose President's rule. 


Finance Minister Arun Jaitley says there is no need to panic, blames the fall of Rupee on "global reasons"

On Wednesday, Rupee further fell by 17 paise against the US Dollar, closing at 71.75. While news agency Reuters reported that RBI has most likely stepped in to put the situation in control, the Finance Minister says there is no need to panic. Jaitley, who only recently joined work after recovering from an operation, said that on an overall front, rupee has strengthened against almost every currency in the last few months. He mentioned that the current scenario is not because of a domestic lack, but purely global reasons. "RBI is certainly doing whatever is necessary", he further added. 


Jan Dhan Yojana to become an open-ended scheme with greater number of incentives

The Government of India has decided to add more incentives to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in order to encourage people to open bank accounts. As per the media reports, the scheme is soon going to become an open-ended scheme. Finance Minister after briefing the Union Cabinet meeting said that the overdraft facility has been doubled from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 10000 under PMJDY. The accidental cover has also been raised from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakhs for new RuPay card holders.
