Sunil Chhetri's contract, positive news for Indian football

Sunil Chhetri's contract with Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon is positive news for the game of football in India which has not many encouraging aspects to boast of. Some view this as a marketing tactic so that Portugal can get into an untapped market in India.For India who is ranked 163rd in FIFA rankings this is definitely a boost to attract young players to the game. Chhetri’s entry into Lisbon’s B team may open doors for more players to be picked up and Indian fans could enjoy watching the home players play in the Premier League

Team Anna gets permission to hold fast at Jantar Mantar

Team Anna got permission from Delhi police to hold fast at Jantar Mantar for an indefinite period starting from July 25. Delhi Police has specified that they have given permission after Team Anna gave the required undertaking in accordance with Supreme Court’s mandate.

The team has been refused permission by Delhi Police two days ago on the grounds that their fast coincided with the Monsoon session of the Parliament where the space would have been required for other purpose. The activists had protested to this and had said that either they will hold the fast at Jantar Mantar or go to jail. They had also accused the Home Minister P. Chidambaram for not allowing them to hold fast. 

Karnatake to get its third CM in an year

Third Chief Minister in a year, Karnataka is all set for another change. The state will have Jagadish Shettar as the Chief Minister who is a loyalist of BS Yeddyurappa. He will replace DV Sadananda Gowda. The decision was taken in the BJP Core Group meeting on Saturday. The official announcement from the BJP high command will come on Sunday after meeting with party President Nitin Gadkari. KS Eshwarappa will get the deputy chief minister’s position.

 Gowda got the chief ministerial post courtesy his mentor Yeddyurappa but relationship between them turned sour after few months. Yeddyurappa had stated if Gowda was not removed from the post he would leave the party. Keeping in mind the Lingayat votes, BJP high command gave in to the pressure tactics of Yeddyurappa and Gowda is now all set to lose his position due to his mentor. 

Facebook will turn recruiter soon

Facebook will turn recruiter soon by collaborating with the present job-posting companies and would launch a job-posting board. It is believed that BranchOut, Jobvite and Work4Labs will be some of the companies which will team up with Facebook.

The popular social networking site  intends to build a centralized engine for job posting. Keeping in mind LinkedIn’s success in recruitment and job posting market being a lucrative one, Facebook’s entry is more obvious in this domain. 

Canon launches a range of video cameras in India

Canon the Japanese major has launched a range of video cameras in India which target Bollywood and broadcast segment. With an aim to expand in Indian market, Canon has announced its entry into the cinematography business. Three cinema EOS advanced range cameras, including the EOS C300, EOS C500 and EOS 1-DC coupled with eleven new cinema EOS lenses was launched.  

Canon Professional Services has also been introduced which will offer membership to chosen few media houses in Mumbai and Delhi. The company intends to provide better service to the busy pro- photographers for whom down time can mean critical loss. 

Aamir and Talaash director in disagreement

Aamir Khan seems to be at loggerheads with his Talaash director Reema Kagti. The news is that Aamir is not too pleased with the second half of the film that has been in production for quite a long time.  Aamir feels that some changes need to be made in it after secret screenings of the movie was held and he got feedback. He met Reema and co-producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and aired his concern. He has also specified that he wanted to sit in the final edit of the movie. This has supposedly angered Reema who has refused to re-shoot any portions.  

Aamir has been in disagreement with his directors earlier as well. Talaash which was supposed to release in June has been pushed to November release and with this recent development it remains to be seen when the movie sees the light of the day.
