New anti-hijacking law comes into force

The new anti-hijacking law, which prescribes capital punishment in the event of death of any person, has come into force following a government notification. The new law, which has come into effect after its notification on July 5, includes several acts within the definition of hijacking including making a threat, attempts or abatement to commit the offence. In the new law, the definition has been expanded to include death of "security personnel on board" or "ground support staff" as well. Those who organise or direct others to commit such offence will also be considered to have committed the offence of hijacking.

Modi meets BRICS nation leaders before G-20 summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met the leaders of BRICS nations before the G-20 summit at Hamburg, Germany. The discussions were held closed door in which leaders of Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa took part. They reportedly discussed an array of issues during the informal meeting held on the sidelines of the G-20 summit. The first day of the G 20 summit started with German Chancellor Angela Merkel formally welcoming the G-20 leaders to the 12th edition of the Summit. The heads of state and government of 19 world economic majors and the European Union are taking part in the summit.
