07 June 2016 Current Events Dadri tense after group demands action against Akhlaq's family

A group of BJP and Shiv Sena leaders held a meeting in Bishahra yesterday despite prohibitory orders and demanded action against the family of Mohammad Akhlaq. Akhlaq was lynched last September by a violent mob after rumours spread that he and his family had consumed beef. The right-winged group threatened that there would be no control over public anger if the local administration did not register FIR against the family within 20 days.



Modi in US on a three-day visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the US today on a three-day visit. He will hold discussions with US President Barack Obama and review bilateral ties. Modi is also slated to address a joint session of the US Congress. Modi arrived at the Joint Base Andrews from Switzerland. He was received there by US’ Ambassador to India Richard Verma and Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nisha Biswal. Modi is visiting the country at the invitation of President Obama.
