India likely to miss tomorrow's total solar eclipse

India will be missing tomorrow’s spectacular total solar eclipse with just a partial eclipse visible from some parts of the country. With the eclipse starting either before sunrise or around sunrise, the viewing of the cosmic event would be made difficult. In Kolkata, the solar eclipse would be in progress around sun rise at 5:51 a.m. and around 6:06 a.m. people would be able to view the partial solar eclipse. 

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza launches in India today

Today, Maruti Suzuki launched its brand new compact SUV Vitara Brezza in India. Priced at Rs. 6.99 lakh, Brezza would be available in six variants with the fanciest one costing Rs. 9.68 lakh. With deliveries starting immediately, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has a 1.3 litre diesel engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox which has been mated with a front wheel drive layout.





India to witness first all-women batch of fighter planes on 18 June

In lieu of International Women’s Day, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha has announced that India would see its first batch of female fighter pilots on 18 June 2016. He also informed currently three women trainees have volunteered to join the fighter stream and they are undergoing the second phase of their training. Upon completion of training, these female fighter pilots would be at par with their male counterparts and would hence be participating in the passing out parade scheduled to take place on 18 June this year.

Rajiv Gandhi killer Nalini to be out on 1 day parole

Today, the Madras high court granted one-day parole to Nalini Sriharan, the prime convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. The women killer had applied for three-day parole to attend the 16th day ceremonies of her father Sankaranarayanan, who died last month. Justice R Mala has granted her 24-hour parole from 4:00 p.m. today to 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. Nalini is serving life sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and has been lodged in Vellore Central Prison.

Rajdhanis & Shatabdis likely to run with 2 engines

As per a new project named “Mission Raftaar” headed by Suresh Prabhu, all the Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains will soon have two engines instead of one. While the first engine would haul the train from the front, the second one would be attached to the rear, giving an additional push so as to reduce the total time that is consumed by the train to accelerate and decelerate. The project is aimed at increasing the speeds of existing trains via innovation and low-cost engineering solutions.

Fitbit Blaze fitness smartphone hits Indian stores

Already unveiled in January CES 2016, the Fitbit Blaze smartwatch is now available in India at a price of Rs. 19,999. Exclusively available at Amazon India, the device comes with Blue, Black and Plum rubber band options. There is a color touchscreen along with impressive features like tracking steps, distance, sleep, calories burned etc. Fitbit Blaze is also equipped with multiple clock faces and a personal training app called FitStar.

Work from home now available for ICICI women employees

As an initiative to help women work from home, India’s largest private lender, ICICI Bank has extended a secure network along with the face recognition technology to offer access to the core banking server via the employees’ laptops. ICICI Bank would be enabling every non-customer-facing task to be implemented from home for greater duration of time. The programme named as iWork@Home was launched today on the eve of International Women’s Day by the MD & CEO of ICICI Bank, Chanda Kochhar.

Sensex scales by 100+ points

Today, the BSE Sensex scaled by 100+ points with Nifty rising by 7,500, courtesy the increased purchase of metal and oil & natural gas stocks. In addition to this, the shares of oil & gas producers such as ONGC, Cairn India, GAIL India, Oil India and Reliance Industries also increased by 1-5 per cent due to an impressive hike in prices of crude oil in the international markets.
