08 November 2017 Current Events Himachal Pradesh to be the first state to use EVMs with VVPAT machines on all booths

Himachal Pradesh will be the first state to use EVMs with VVPAT machines on all booths during assembly elections 2017. The state will go to polls on November 9, in a single phase.

Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of Himachal polls. Additional police force has been deployed at vulnerable and critical polling stations. Multi-cornered contest is expected in all constituencies, except Jhanduta constituency in Bilaspur district.

The polling officials have reached in far flung areas of Pangi in Bharmour, Bara Bhangal in Baijnath and Dodra Kawar in Rohru assembly constituencies. In Kaa polling station, Kinnaur tribal assembly constituency has only six voters. In Dharmashala segment of Kangra district two polling stations will be fully handled by divyang officials.


M C Mary Kom wins gold medal in 48 kg category in Asian Women's Boxing Championship.

Mary Kom notched up her fifth gold medal in 48 kg category in Asian Women's Boxing Championships at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. She has won World Championship 5 times and has Olympic Bronze medal to her credit. This was Mary Kom’s fifth final in only six appearances, which means she remains unbeaten in the summit clash of the continental championship.

This is Mary Kom's first international gold medal since the 2014 Asian Games and her first medal in over a year.
