CBI files charge sheet in Syndicate Bank bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet in the 2014 bribery case naming Syndicate Bank chairman-cum-managing director S.K. Jain and Bhushan Steel Ltd. vice-chairman Neeraj Singhal as accused in the case, sources said. The charge sheet was filed before Special Judge Gurdeep Singh, who posted the matter for October 12 after CBI sought more time for filing some other documents in the case as as they are voluminous. Sania-Martina reach China Open semis

The Indo-Swiss tennis combine of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis were tested but eventually made their way through to enter the women's doubles semifinals of the $5.7 million China Open. The top seeds took an hour and 20 minutes to beat the German-Czech pairing of Julia Goerges and Karolina Pliskova 7-6(5), 6-4 at the Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Center, which was built for the 2008 Olympic Games. The first set was an extremely close contest as both pairs earned five breakpoint chances and converted twice. Resurgence of violence a concern for India: IAF chief

The Indian Air Force (IAF) chief, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, has said that resurgence of violence in the Asia-Pacific region was a matter of concern for India. "The global security environment has witnessed a paradigm shift and the strategic centre of gravity now rests in the Asia-Pacific region. There has been a resurgence of violence in the region, which is of concern to India," Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha said while addressing the 83rd Air Force Day parade at Hindon air force base near Delhi. BJP MLAs thrash independent MLA in J&K assembly

Two ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs thrashed independent MLA Engineer Rashid in the state assembly on Thursday for hosting a beef party the previous day. Even before the speaker, Kavinder Gupta, could take his seat, BJP MLAs Gagan Bhagat and Rajeev Sharma pounced on Engineer Rashid and started thrashing him. ICICI Bank introduces electronic cardless transaction on Visa

The ICICI Bank has launched a service enabling customers to make electronic payments from their smartphones at physical stores, e-commerce portals, radio taxis and utility billers, among others, without swiping a debit card. The service is based on 'mVisa', a new mobile payment solution from Visa. ICICI Bank, India's largest private bank, is the first bank globally to launch a mobile app based on 'mVisa' solution for consumers and merchants. The service is applicable only for Visa cards. Motorola launches new Moto X Style

Lenovo-owned American handset-maker Motorola has launched the Moto X style priced at Rs.22,999. The new device will come with a Gorilla Glass 3 protected 5.7-inch quad-HD display which supports 520 pixel density. It will be powered by a Qualcomm 808 1.8Ghz hexacore processor and a 3GB RAM unit. In terms of storage, the phone will come in two variants of 16GB and 32GB internal memory, both expandable to 128GB. The 32GB edition will be priced at Rs.31,999. Source: IANS

Instant messaging platform hike messenger has launched a new feature named hike Direct which will allow the app to function without an Internet connection and also said that it has reached a user base of over 70 million. "At a point of time in the country where several people are yet to come online, hike Direct will connect users in a never before seen revolutionary way. The feature can work without Wi-Fi or mobile data and allow users to send photos, stickers, files and messages to anyone who is also on the hike network," said Kavin Bharti Mittal, founder and chief executive of hike messenger. SC urged to hear plea allowing extended use of Aadhaar

The Centre has urged the Supreme Court to constitute a constitution bench to hear its plea to allow the use of Aadhaar card for the disbursal of benefits under various social welfare schemes and also in banking and financial transactions. As Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi asked the apex court bench headed by Chief Justice H.L. Dattu to constitute a larger bench to hear their plea for "clarification/ modification" of the August 11 order, the court said it was "very difficult" to constitute a larger bench for an early hearing. Earthquake hits Himachal

Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district was rocked by a low-intensity earthquake on morning of 8 October 2015, an official said. However, there was no loss of life. Tremors of the magnitude 3.8 earthquake were felt for some seconds in several parts of Mandi and nearby districts at 6.34 a.m., Meteorological Office Director Manmohan Singh said. SC to hear poll affidavit complaint against Modi

The Supreme Court has been moved by an Ahmedabad resident alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not disclose his marital status in the affidavit filed with his nomination papers in the 2012 Gujarat assembly elections.The petitioner, Nishant Deshdipak Varma, has contended that the non-disclosure of his matrimonial status during 2012 elections when he contested from Maninagar constituency in Ahmedabad is an offence under the Representation of People Act and Rules. India-Sweden discuss various issues including IS threat

India and Sweden discussed various issues of mutual importance, including disaster management, threat of Islamic State and steps being taken for counter-terrorism, an official release said. The discussions took place during a meeting between visiting Swedish State Secretary for Home Affairs Ann Linde and Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju. While discussing radicalization and threat of IS, Linde observed that it is a big issue for Europe and urgent steps are being taken to protect the youth from lure of IS, the release said.
