09 August 2016 Current Events Irom Sharmila Set to Break her Fast After 16 Years

After16 long years of fasting, social activist from Manipur Irom Sharmila will be breaking her fast on Tuesday. Sharmila is 44-year-old and has been kept alive by force-feeding since 2000. She had announced on July 26 that she will be joining active politics to continue her fight of repealing the Armed Forces Special Power Act in the state.


Ex-CM of Arunachal Pradesh Commits Suicide

The body of former chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh Kalikho Pul was found at his residence in Itanagar on Tuesday morning. Reports say that he was suffering from depression after the Supreme Court struck down his appointment. He hung himself from the ceiling fan at his house. Three days of mourning at the state has been announced and a state funeral will also be accorded for him.
