Government to probe into new names accused of stashing Black money : Arun Jaitley

Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that the government will probe into the list of Indian names that have come up in the new Swiss Leaks. A transnational collaboration of newspapers (Indian Express and Le Monde) and International Consortium of Investigative Journalists has revealed new 1,195 Indian names of political leaders and business behemoths who have stashed Rs 25,420 crore money in HSBC’s Swiss bank accounts. Jaitley also told media that an inquiry will be initiated, but added that evidence is required to initiate legal action and just revelation of names is not enough.

Black money issue: News report exposes names of businessmen

The Indian Express had collaborated with International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and Le Monde, French newspaper, to come up with a new investigative report codenamed Swiss Leaks and exposed the names of industrialists who stashed their money in HSBC’s Swiss branch. The report revealed that funds worth $ 4.1 billion ( around Rs. 25,000 crore) were stashed by 1,195 Indians and the most shocking aspect is that the list contains names of family members belonging to top business families of India including Salgaocars, Rahejas, Burmans, and Ambanis.

Haryana: Mentally challenged woman brutally raped and murdered in Rohtak

Half-eaten body of a 28-year-old woman was found beside the highway in Rohtak of Haryana. According to the police statement, the mutilated body was stuffed with stones, sticks and condoms in the private parts. It is learnt that the woman was first raped and then brutally murdered. The slain woman’s sister alleged police inaction and sought justice from administration. Yashpal Singal, the Chief of Chandigarh police, has reportedly said that they are lacking ‘luck’ in tracing the culprits. Ferocity of the incident is reminding many of infamous Delhi rape case of 2012.

Jitan Ram expelled from JDU; Nitish Stakes Claim for Bihar CM's Post

Jitan Ram Manjhi has been expelled from Janata Dal (United) after he defiantly refused to step down from CM’s position. After Manjhi met Indian PM Narendra Modi, the former was expelled from the party on the charges of anti-party activities. On Monday, Nitish Kumar reached the house of Bihar Governor with 130 legislators to stake claim of the Chief Minister’s chair. He also asked the governor to count the number of MLAs present and take a decision immediately. As a contingency plan JDU has also booked 140 flight seats to reach Delhi and meet President for demonstrating support for Nitish Kumar in case Bihar Governor doesn’t invite Nitish to form government.


Congress ready to take up any role that Delhi voters decide: Ajay Maken

With almost every exit poll predicting a complete rout of Congress in Delhi Assembly election, General Secretary of Congress, Ajay Maken told media that if the real outcome matches as predicted by the exit polls, his party is prepared to take up any role that people entrust upon the party. He also said that exit poll outcome shows that people of Delhi really wanted to give Aam Aadmi Party a chance to assume power for a complete term. However, P C Chacko of Congress expressed his own doubts on exit poll surveys.

India's Security Advisor meets Chinese State Councillor ahead of Modi's Beijing visit

Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor, met Yang Jiechi, Chinese State Councillor, in Munich for deepening bilateral cooperation. The meeting was held on the sidelines of Munich’s international security conference. This meeting was crucial because it comes just before the 18th round of Special Representative Boundary discussions between China and India. Analysts also ascribe importance to this meeting as it comes before PM Modi's scheduled visit to China in May.

Sensex, Nifty slide as Exit Poll predicts AAP's victory

BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty both witnessed sharp fall today as almost every exit polls predicted Aam Aadmi Party’s win. Monday was the first trading day after announcement of exit polls on Saturday. While BSE Sensex shed 390 points, NSE Nifty fell by 110 points. Geojit BNP Paribas Financial Services’ research head Alex Mathew said that this was a knee-jerk reaction of the market on the news of probable win of AAP as last 49-day stint of AAP had painted the party as anti-corporate.

Ratan Tata makes personal investment in car portal

Chairman emeritus of Tata conglomerate, Ratan Tata, has made personal investment in a popular auto portal, a website owned by Jaipur based company GirnarSoft. The amount has not been disclosed. This information has been disclosed by a statement from the auto classifieds portal. It is Ratan Tata’s third investment in eCommerce space. The first two personal investments were Snapdeal and Urban Ladder. It is learnt that the worth of GirnarSoft is $300 million. According to the information available, has planned to increase its employee strength by 800 employees in 2015.


Telecom subscriber base reaches 97 crore: TRAI Report

TRAI’s latest report points out that by December 2014 Telecom subscriber base in India reached 970 million, an all-time high level. The report points out that from the end of November 2014 to December 2014, the telecom subscriber base has increased from 964.20 million to 970.97 million. India’s teledensity has increased to 77.58. In the last month of 2014, active wireless subscribers were 833 million. Bharti Airtel has maximum number of mobile customers at 217.2 million, followed by 178.6 million mobile subscribers of Vodafone.

L&T posts disappointing third quarter profit

Larsen and Toubro’s profit has nosedived to Rs. 1,060 crore, a year-on-year fall of 14.6 per cent. CNBC-TV18’s analysis shows that average estimate of revenue earning was Rs. 15,973 crore and profit Rs. 1,255 crore for third quarter. However, during Oct-Dec quarter, net sales increased from Q3 2014’s Rs 14,388 crore to Q3 2015’s Rs 14,995 crore. In response to disappointing result, Larsen & Toubro Limited's stock fell by 125.20 points, a sharp fall of 7.44 per cent, at NSE.
