10 January 2019 Current Events Babri Masjid dispute: Hearing postponed till January 29

The hearing for the case was yet again deferred after Justice Lalit opted himself out earlier today. In 1994, Justice Lalit had appeared for Kalyan Singh, the UP Chief Minister of the time, as informed to the SC bench by Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan. Following this, though no demand for the same was made by Dhavan, Justice Lalit opted out of the hearing. 

The SC bench, led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi, also comprised of Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, NV Ramana. The hearing will now take place on January 29.


CBI Chief Alok Verma back in the loop; cancels transfers of loyalists

Yesterday, Alok Verma was reinstated as the CBI Chief by the Supreme Court. Within a day, Verma has already swung into action, scrapping transfer orders made by the interim chief. 

Verma, who was out of his office for 77 days, has scraped off all but one of the transfer directives given by M Nageswara Rao. While Alok Verma is back in office, he has been asked not to make any important policy decisions, pending a probe into the charges against him.
