Subramanian Swamy's Janata Party merges with the BJP


Subramanian Swamy's Janata Party has been merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Swamy made this announcement after a discussion at the BJP chief Rajnath Singh's residence. Rajnath stated that Swamy was welcome to the party and it would be beneficial for the same. Swamy expressed his happiness over the development. In the 1990s, Swamy was Commerce and Law Minister in the Chandra Shekhar government. He specified that this was a difficult phase for the country and efforts has to be made for its future. This merger is being seen as a step to make the NDA stronger before the 2014 elections. Swamy had last year joined the NDA.

BSF soldier injured in firing by Pakistani soldiers


At Kanachak sector of Jammu district, a BSF soldier was injured in firing by Pakistani soldiers on the international border. Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry blamed the Indian soldiers of indulging in firing in the Sialkot sector. The BSF officer, Pawan Kumar who got shot on his chest said that he response fired at the Pakistani soldiers. He was admitted to the government hospital in critical condition and would be shifted to AIIMS in Delhi. This incident happened within a week of firing by the Pakistani soldiers because of which 5 Indian troopers were killed and one got injured. In fact this is the 3rd violation of ceasefire agreement in the past two days. Pakistan blamed Indian soldiers for firing at them at Sialkot sector and that the firing from their side was in retaliation and no one was injured.

Rs 2,158 crore of tax evasion detected by the Finance Ministry


The Finance Ministry has initiated efforts to curb revenue outflow and this has culminated in finding of over Rs 2,158 crore evasion in direct and indirect taxes in the last quarter of 2012-13. This was found by the online monitoring system which was installed by the ministry so that revenue intelligence agencies could function and distribute information in real time. 'Virtual Office' has helped the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) find out Rs 1,408 crore worth of income and assets which were unaccounted. The Central Board of Excise and Custom’s two agencies - Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence and Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence have been instrumental in the detection of Rs 750 crore worth of indirect tax evasion. This was detected through Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) provided by Financial Intelligence Unit.

PV Sindhu grabs a bronze at the World Championships


PV Sindhu wants to be the number one and she is gradually cruising to her goal. She may have lost in the semifinals in straight games of the Badminton World Federation Championships but still has managed to win a bronze in the singles after Prakash Padukone got one in the men's singles in the year 1983. In the semis she lost to Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, but her performance was impressive when she had won over Yihan Wang, the defending champion as well as defeated Shixian Wang, the Asian Games medalist to get into the semis. This may enhance her rankings as she is now 12th but she may get into the top 10.

"Chennai Express" sets the cash register ringing


“Chennai Express” bags an impressive box office collection and sets a new record. This Shahrukh Khan’s movie was released on Eid and as per the trade reports, it made a total collection of 67.92 crore in three days. Thursday previews were 6.75 crore, 33.12 crore on Friday and 28.05 crore on Saturday. The film had a grand opening in overseas market and it grossed Rs 21.4 crore till Friday. Thursday collection was $ 1.29 million and Friday’s was $ 2.3 million. In fact the movie made a collection $ 683,000 in US and Canada.

Yatra forgets to renew its domain is down for a few days and the reason is going to surprise all of us.
