The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after witnessing uproarious scenes, as the Congress continued its protest over the Lalit Modi controversy. After numerous adjournments since morning, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the house for the day at 4 p.m. after it witnessed unruly scenes over how to debate the issue. Source: IANS

Odisha launches Youth Innovation Fund

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday launched "Youth Innovation Fund", an initiative to encourage youth entrepreneurship and innovation in the state. The Rs.2 crore fund has been created to motivate youth to come out with new ideas and promote innovative products and services for the cause of socio-economic development of the state. Source: IANS

Bill on GST introduced in Rajya Sabha amid ruckus

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has introduced a constitutional amendment bill to enable implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) in the country in the Rajya Sabha amid ruckus. The bill was introduced in the house after a report by a select committee of the Rajya Sabha. As Congress members created a ruckus and trooped near the chairman's podium, an angry Jaitley said the protests were aimed at stalling the economic growth of the country. HC dismisses Ola cabs' plea against ban

The Delhi High Court has dismissed app-based cab service provider Ola's plea against a single judge's order asking the Delhi government to "strictly enforce" the ban imposed by it on January 1. A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath dismissed the plea filed by Ola cabs challenging a single judge's July 29 order that directed the Delhi government and traffic police to enforce the ban order issued on January 1 on radio cab services not registered under the radio taxi scheme and running on diesel. Yogendra Yadav arrested, says he was manhandled

Yogendra Yadav, former AAP leader and founder-member of farmer rights group Swaraj Abhiyan, have been arrested. He said he was "dragged and hit", a charge which the police denied. Yadav and many fellow activists of the group were arrested around 1 a.m. from Jantar Mantar, where they held a protest, demanding adequate compensation for farmers affected by the land bill as well as those hit by crop loss. Goa BJP MLA wants 'matka' gambling legalized

Goa BJP legislator Vishnu Wagh has demanded legalization of matka, an illegal but extremely popular form of gambling prevalent in the state and parts of western India. While arguing that big-moneyed gambling in casinos was legal but matka was not, Wagh said gambling should not be viewed with a class bias. Source: IANS

Cricket: Shukla to lead Bengal's preseason tour to Sri Lanka

Veteran all rounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla will lead a 15 member Bengal squad to Sri Lanka for their upcoming preseason tour, team management said. Pragyan Ojha, who has signed for Bengal this season, has been kept in the squad but the management is willing to let him go and play for English county side Sussex with whom he is currently in talks. LG stays Delhi government's decision on circle rates

Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung has withheld his nod to the notification issued by the AAP government on new circle rates, a government source said. Jung's disapproval will add to the acrimony between him and the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi. Last week, the Delhi government had notified an increase in circle rates of agricultural land, but Jung had objected to it, saying he was not consulted. Source: IANS

Mamata to meet Modi on Wednesday, demand Rs.30,000 crore for flood relief

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said she will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 12 and will demand central funds of Rs.30,000 crore for post-flood reconstruction work in the state. Talking to media persons before leaving for New Delhi, she said she will also demand compensation for flood-affected farmers during her meeting with Modi, even as the death toll in the calamity shot up to 120 with 23 deaths reported over the past three days. Sundar Pichai is the new Google CEO

Sundar Pichai, 43-year-old,  Indian-born has been named as the new CEO of Google. The company has undergone a corporate restructuring and formed an umbrella company, Alphabet. Company founders Larry page and Sergey Brin will be the CEO of Alphabet. Pichai will take the charge of Google (which will be dubbed as Google Minus).
