Fresh case filed by CBI against Dasari Rao

CBI has filed new cases against Dasari Narayan Rao, who was earlier the minister of coal, industrialist Naveen Jindal as well as Jindal’s companies which include Jindal Steel and Power Ltd, Gagan Sponge for anomalies in the coal block allocation.

Fifteen places in Hyderabad and Delhi were raided in connection with this case. The CBI has informed the Supreme Court, that there have been huge anomalies in the allocation.

Earlier, the law minister had to resign from duty when he was involved in vetting of the CBI report before it was submitted to the apex court. The CBI simultaneously searched the residence of Dasari Narayan Rao as well.

V.C. Shukla dead, state mourning in Chattisgarh for three days

V.C. Shukla, the Congress veteran who was a Union Minister, earlier succumbed to injuries today in the afternoon. He had multiple organ failure. He was grievously injured when Naxals attacked the Congress convoy in a Parivartan Yatra at Bastar in Chhattisgarh on May 25. He was taken in a flight from Raipur to a hospital in Gurgaon on May 26. He was fighting the battle for his life all these days.

The attack left the top leaders of the Chattisgarh unit of the Congress dead. Shukla was 84 years of age. It is said he was shot at thrice and was found sitting in a pool of blood at the ambush site. He had received gunshots in his chest, thigh and abdomen. The Chattisgarh government has announced three days of state mourning.

Shukla entered politics and won the Lok Sabha election at the age of 28. He had won nine times and became a cabinet minister in Indira Gandhi’s government.

India beat West Indies by 8 wickets.

India won by eight wickets against the West Indies in the Champions trophy's second Group B match in London.

West Indies batting first made 234 and in response to that, India made 236 losing two wickets in the process. When they completed the target, 65 balls were still remaining. 

Shikhar Dhawan was not out on 102. Dinesh Karthik was also unbeaten at 51. It was Jadeja who with the bowling figure of five for 22 struck through the West Indies batting. He took the wickets of Johnson Charles, Marlon Samuels and Ramnaresh Sarwan within 14 balls. Dhawan had struck 10 fours and a six in his knock while Karthik hit eight fours in his tenure of 56 balls.

West Indies earlier had crumbled for 182 for nine but it was due to Darren Sammy's 56 not out that they could reach a respectable score. India has now reached the semi-finals. 

Jiah's boyfriend Suraj arrested, sent to police custody

Suraj Pancholi was sent to police custody till June 13. He is Jiah Khan’s boyfriend. Khan, who committed suicide, in her suicide note has allegedly stated the assault, rape and life threat given to her by Suraj. He was arrested under under IPC Section 306 for creating a situation for Jiah's suicide.

Police had discovered love letters of the couple and the verification of the same was needed. Police had also got hold of the CCTV footage of the places where the couple went on the day Jiah committed suicide. Jiah had aborted her baby.

Suraj’s lawyer, on the other hand, had contested that the note did not mention Suraj’s name and Jiah’s signature was not there in it. The note has been found 3 days after she died and it was also stated by the defence lawyer that Suraj who is 21 years old could not commit, in the short period of 6-8 months that they knew each other, to Jiah, who was 25 years old.

Google to acquire Waze at $1.3 billion?

As per sources, Google will acquire Waze, the mapping company at the cost of $1.3 billion. Waze was earlier having talks with Facebook, but the deal could not be closed as Facebook wanted Waze to shift base from Israel to its headquarters.

Google and Waze have not confirmed anything but, as per sources, the formalities are being discussed, and it is more of logistics than any other aspect. Navigation services, maps have captured the attention of the users these days and the reason why companies are targeting this segment.

Waze creates maps utilizing simulations from the user’s smartphones and the same is shared with others in real time.

Rupee slumps to new low at 58.95 against dollar

The rupee touched a new low and stands at 58.95 against the dollar. The huge current account deficit and excessive demand for the dollar has aggravated the situation. There is no intervention by the central bank which is resulting in the demand for the dollar from the importers.

On Monday itself, the rupee was 58.16 against dollar, which was a two-year low. In the past one and half months, rupee had fallen by more than 8%. Out of 18 sessions, it has dipped in 16 sessions. The dollar is getting preference over the Euro and Yen.

The government though has stated that medium term steps are being taken to tackle the current account deficit. RBI has geared up to infuse the dollars in the market, and the exporters have been asked to analyze their earnings in dollar and bring them here within a year to provide support to the declining rupee. The central bank has also raised the amount which the exporters can get in here from $3,000 to $10,000.
