A court in Gurugram has found 31 workers of Maruti’s Manesar Plant guilty of rioting (riot took place in 2012), which killed a manager and left 100 people injured. While 117 workers have been acquitted by the Additional and session judge Rajendra Pal Goel for lack of evidence, 13 workers have been convicted for murdering a general manager (Awanish Kumar Dev) in the human resources department. While Gurugram district attorney, Lal Singh Yadav, called the verdict historic, local worker unions called it anti-labour.
Haryana Assembly has passed a bill - Haryana Road Infrastructure Protection Bill, 2017 - that criminalises damage to state roads. The violators are subjected to three years imprisonment and monetary fine. Reports say the bill was passed for implementing a systematic approach to utilise and manage road infrastructure in a better manner and at the same time enhance security. It also provides legal framework so that concerned authorities can check all kinds of unauthorised access to roads. The bill also bans unauthorised hoardings and prohibits encroachment of roads in Haryana.
Reports revealed that at least 11 CRPF personnel were killed while four others were injured in Sukma district of Chattisgarh on Saturday. Maoists reportedly opened fire on a road opening party (ROP) at around 9 am.
The CRPF personnel, from 219 battalion, were part of the ROP. The incident took place when they were clearing the road between Bhejji and Kuttacheru.
