AAP's Massive rally in Amethi on January 12

With Amethi comes the name of the Congress. But Kumar Vishwas from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is soon going to hold a rally at Amethi. The Congress spokesperson has recently declared that if anyone wants to lose can contest from Amethi. Soon after this statement came the pronouncement of the AAP to hold a ‘Jan Vishwas Rally’ on January 12. Though AAP has not declared Kumar as its candidate from Amethi but it is expected that he might be the one who will be representing the party from this place in the coming Lok Sabha 2014 elections. Through this rally a common man at Amethi will be informed about the ideas and plans of the party. In a press conference, Kumar said that he is not afraid of anybody. He will go to Amethi and in case he is not required in Delhi then he will come back only after Lok Sabha elections. Speculations are going on that Rahul Gandhi will also contest from Chikamagalur constituency in Karnataka apart from his regular seat of Amethi. Kumar has challenged him to contest only from Amethi. Any probability of disturbance is not disturbing him as he said that people won’t have any issue in discussing their problems. He further added that he never wanted to gain any popularity but his colleagues asked him to contest elections from the constituency.

Sanjay Dutt filed an application for the extension of parole

Sanjay Dutt who was on 30-day parole from Yerawada jail requested for 30-days extension. The actor has filed an application for the extension to the Pune divisional commissioner. Dutt was on parole to take care of his wife Maanyata. Maanyata has been suffering from heart and liver problems. She was even admitted to Global Hospital in Parel (Mumbai) on Tuesday after her health worsen. Dutt had surrendered in May once the case against him was proved and he was convicted for illegal possession of weapons in the 1993 serial blasts case. He was sentenced five years of imprisonment. He was now serving 42 months of his remaining sentence. Dutt was out on 28-day furlough and then out on parole since December 21. Officials at the divisional commissionerate received application on January 4. They will forward it to the assistant commissioner of police of Bandra in Mumbai. The application will be forwarded with queries like if his wife is actually ill or not, if Dutt has been reporting to the police regularly or not, if he has been involved in any kind of illegal activity during his parole. Decision will be taken only after considering these factors.

Srinagar-Jammu national highway opened after two days

Due to heavy snowfall the Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained close for two days. It was reopened after two days on Sunday. This highway connects Kashmir Valley to the rest of the country. The areas around Jawahar Tunnel had heavy snowfall and traffic remained still on the 294-km arterial road on Friday. Only the vehicles which were locked a day earlier were allowed to cross. Vehicles were allowed to move from Srinagar to Jammu. The weather in the valley remained dry and news from the MET department confirmed that the weather will remain the same for few more days. Last night the minimum recorded temperature in Srinagar was -3.0 degree Celsius which was down by two degrees than the previous night. Temperature in Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir Valley remained as low as -7.6 degree Celsius which was 3.0 degree less than the previous night. Minimum temperature in Kupwara was -4.0 degree Celsius. Coldest recorded place in the state was Leh where the minimum temperature was -18.9 degree Celsius.  According to the officials it was the coldest night of the season in the frontier town.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three days International Kite Festival (IKF)

The three-day International Kite Festival (IKF) was inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday at the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad. Festivals of these kinds are full of energy and truly signify our culture, love for nature, environment and tourism. Modi laid stress on tourism and said that it is essential and our country must keep developing this industry across the world with a pace. Modi also said that the kite market has shown a tremendous growth from Rs 30-35 crore in 2001-02 to more than Rs 500 crore this year. It is actually a livelihood for the poorest of the poor. For better result local people must be made a part of the tourism industry. On the occasion ‘surya namaskar’ was performed by the municipal schools children and a cultural programme was presented by the differently abled students. Modi expressed his happiness over the performance and said that kids can do wonders if given right opportunity. To participate in the kite festival kite flyers from all across the world and India have come to the riverfront. The day also celebrates the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand. Modi called Swami Vivekanand as a source of inspiration and regarded him as a personality for unifying India through the power of spirituality. On the occasion Tourism Minister Saurabh Patel said that Gujarat’s tourism growth is 14% whereas nation’s tourism growth is 7%.

Rohan Bopanna confident to play Grand Slam

Rohan Bopanna reached the finals after performing superbly at the Sydney International. He made his way to the Australian Open. He has not played his game for the last two years and now made a place back in the Davis Cup. Selection made Bopanna the senior-most member of the team. His participation in the ATP tour helped him in gaining confidence to win his first Grand Slam title. Bopanna added that even going to Grand Slam is great and he is well prepared for the game. They are confident as a team. In 2012 Bopanna and Mahesh Bhupathi had been banned on disciplinary grounds by the AITA. Bopanna touched the highest in his career and reached number third position just behind the great Bryan brothers. Bopanna could not played three Davis cup ties against New Zealand, Korea and Indonesia because of ban. He is sure that opportunity to play the game at home town would come again. Both the players could play the game again because Karnataka High Court stayed the ban. Last time India played the match in 2009 with close 3-2 win. But he lost both the matches held at Kaohsiung.
