Delhi Assembly Election Schedule to be Announced Today

Election Commission is all set to announce schedule of the upcoming Delhi Assembly Election 2015 today. Available information suggest that the election to form the 70-seat Delhi assembly will take place anywhere during mid-February 2015. It has been reported that Election Commission will announce election  dates in such a manner so that it does not come in the way of CBSE Annual examination that are set to start on March 2. Major political parties in the capital – AAP, BJP, and the Congress – have already started their election campaigning process.

Internal Meeting of NC Triggers J&K Government Formation Gossip

National Conference is having an internal party meeting today at residence of former CM of the state, Omar Abdullah. This meeting, which is taking place after Omar stepped down from the CM’s chair 3 days back, has set the rumor mills spinning gossips about the probability of government formation. Though spokesperson of the party referred the meeting a routine one, he also said that the offer of support to PDP for forming government is till date valid.

AAI Sues Kingfisher Airlines after Non-Payment of Rs. 294 Crore Dues

Airports Authority of India has dragged the defunct Kingfisher Airlines to Bombay High Court after the latter failed to clear dues to the extent of Rs. 294 crore. Available information on the concerned civil suit show that AAI has sought response from the management of the failed airliner including UB Group chief Vijay Mallya. The filed suit claims that Kingfisher Airlines is yet to pay dues accrued till February 2014. To top Mallya’s woes, Mumbai’s metropolitan magistrate court has asked him to provide 48 hour prior notice to the court before going abroad.

Available reports point out that Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015 has not only got Rs. 2 lakh crore investment and over fifty thousand job creation assurance from business behemoths such as Ambanis, Suzuki, Birla, Adani, and Rio Tinto on very first day but is also expected to get huge foreign investment. US India Business Council’s informal survey says that business delegations from the US are expected to make investment to the tune of $41 billion in the coming 3 to 4 years in India. In presence of international dignitaries Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday said that India is on the threshold of taking ‘Quantum Leap’ and the current government is steadfast to make India the easiest place to do business.

Arun Jaitley and Finance Ministry Vouch for 'Achche Din'

Arun Jaitley, Union Finance Minister, reiterated the need of doing away with the highly adversarial tax structure during his speech today at Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015. He made it clear during the speech that his ministry is against retrospective tax. The statement comes a day after Indian PM NaMo expressed his intention of making India the easiest place of doing business.  Jaitley also said that Goods and Services Tax (that will expand tax base and also simplify tax structure) is intended to be implemented throughout the country by next year. Arvind Subramanian, Chief Economic Adviser of Finance Ministry, expects higher growth rate in the coming days, higher than 5 per cent rate witnessed in the last 2 years.

Air India Announces Mega 7-Day Sale Offer on Tickets to Compete Vistara

Air India, the national carrier, has locked horn with a private carrier Vistara in terms of ticket prices by announcing mega sale offer on its ticket prices, starting today, on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Delhi routes. The offer will continue till January 18 and in this 7-day sale period travelers can book tickets for travelling from 16 January 2015 to 30 April 2015. The offer is valid for tickets that cost Rs. 1,557 or above. Market sources reveal that domestic airliners are in a price war, thereby bringing the price down by 20 to 50 per cent.    

Witness in Asaram Bapu Surat Rape Case Murdered

Akhil Gupta, the 35-year-old witness of infamous Surat Rape case (allegedly committed by Godman Asaram Bapu), has been killed by unidentified miscreants in Muzaffarnagar’s Jansath Road yesterday evening. The incident happened when Gupta was returning to his residence. He was a key witness to rape of a minor girl by Asaram. Akhil Gupta, who was a close aide of the Asaram Bapu, had earlier recorded statement against the ‘godman’.

Supreme Court Directs Union Government to Allow e-voting at the Earliest

Supreme Court directed the Union Government to make all arrangements within a span of 8 weeks for allowing Non Resident Indians to exercise their franchise from overseas countries, without requiring them to come back to their hometown at the time of election. The Supreme Court directive of allowing e-voting will allow around 11 million NRIs to exercise their franchise from abroad.

Feud within Congress Party Spills over to Allahabad's Subhash Chowk

Internal feud of the grand old party of India, Congress party, has spilled over again to the open streets when some Youth Congress leaders put up a banner in Allahabad’s Subhash Chowk that urged High Command to shun Digvijay Singh and bring in Priyanka Vadra Gandhi at the helm on her birthday today. Haseeb Ahmad, who is reported to be associated with 'Priyanka Gandhi Youth Brigade', has said that he and his associates have already written a letter to Sonia Gandhi requesting her to consider the name of her daughter as National President.

Shaharyar Khan is Open to Playing with India on Indian Soil

Shaharyar Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, told media that Pakistan is not entirely against playing with India on Indian soil. He said this while answering to a question regarding the Indian plan of hosting a home series with Pakistan in December 2015. However, he also said that according to the MoU signed between the cricket boards of both the countries the first series between the two neighbours will be played in UAE, a neutral venue.

80 Branches of Bhartiya Mahila Banks likely by March 2015

Top officials of the first all-woman chain of banks in India, Bhartiya Mahila Banks, is all set to touch the 80-branch target by March-end. It is noteworthy that out of these 80 branches, 20 will be operating exclusively in rural areas. Usha Ananthasubramanian, Chairman and Managing Director of the bank chain revealed this information. BMB will open its fortieth branch in Bangalore on January 13, 2015.
