45 Stranded Whales die on Tuticorin Beach

Fishermen in Tuticorin had a tough time trying to rescue an odd 100 whales that were stranded on the Tuticorin beach. Though they managed to save around 40 whales, almost a total of 45 whales died. According to sources, the whales may have ended up on the beach after having travelled 1000 km across the Pacific. It was in the afternoon that locals noticed the pod of whales slowing coming towards the beach and raised an alarm.

India lose to Australia in 1st ODI

Even Rohit Sharma’s magnificent 171 couldn’t help India in winning the first ODI of the five-match cricket series. Australia’s ace cricketers Steven Smith (149) and George Bailey (112) led the hosts and contributed to their team’s five-wicket victory. Yet another USP of the match was vice-captain Virat Kohli’s scintillating 91 which too went in vain as Australia approached a comfortable win.

Emergency landing for Delhi-bound Air India flight

Low pressure in one of the aircraft’s tyres forced a Delhi-bound Air India flight to make an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. All 325 passengers onboard are safe. The AI flight AI 102 from New York’s JFK Airport is reported to have made a “precautionary” landing, seven minutes ahead of its scheduled time of 2:50 p.m.

No comments on politics or religion, says SRK

After inviting a lot of controversy with his comment on intolerance, the Dilwale-fame superstar Shahrukh Khan has informed the media that in future he won’t answer that is related to politics or any religious matter. It was during a promotional event that Bollywood Baadshah avoided answering a question related to reduction of his security cover by the Mumbai Police.

On Sunday, Reliance Industries’ subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm rolled its high-speed Wi-Fi services called Jionet for consumers residing in MG Road in Vijayawada. Launched by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Reliance Jio comes equipped with a digital experience and aims to bring cutting edge true 4G technology to people hailing from different business verticals. Reliance Jio 4G claims to deliver 10 times higher download speeds and 4 times better upload speed compared to other internet service providers.

Supreme Court says "No" to Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu

Jallikattu, the popular bull-fighting sport in Tamil Nadu has been put on hold by the Supreme Court of India. As a part of popular Pongal festival held in mid-January, Jallikattu has been cited as cruelty to animals by the Animal Welfare Board, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and eleven other animal-caring organizations. While the festival of Pongal was banned by the UPA government last year, this time the DMK had demanded to lift the ban.

Priyanka Chopra likely to star in Baywatch

After having created waves with her maiden American TV series Quantico, Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra is reportedly in talks to join Dwayne Johnson’s Baywatch. Considered as the actress’ Hollywood film debut, Baywatch would have her playing the story’s villain. Recently, Priyanka Chopra won her the first international honour, the People's Choice Award for the best actress in a New TV series. 

Zomato to suspend operation in 4 Indian cities

Zomato, a popular food ordering app company (operational since April 2015), announced that it will be shutting down its online ordering service in four Indian cities, viz: Kochi, Lucknow, Indore and Coimbatore. Quoting the cities’ small-sized markets as the key reason, Zomato has plans to re-launch its online ordering service in the same as and when the time is right.

Global Sales Hike helps Tata Motors

Unlike the flat market witnessed last Tuesday, Tata Motors shares saw a rise of over 1 percent after reporting a 7 percent increase in its global sales during the entire month of December. The company reportedly sold 91,762 units in December 2015 and received a majority of its annual revenue from its luxury brand JLR (Jaguar Land Rover). It had earlier sold 85,742 units in December 2014.

Woman lands in jail for assaulting mother-in-law

Sangeeta Jain, the daughter-in-law of Bijnore-based Rajrani (aged 70) was arrested soon after the video of her assault on the former went viral on major social media networks. While the video has the elderly woman cowering in her bed, the daughter-in-law is seen slapping, kicking, choking and beating the mother-in-law using a brick. The room had a camera secretly installed by Sangeeta’s husband.
