India worried about its peacekeepers in Syria

In the event of Austria withdrawing its troops from the Golan Heights, India is worried about its peacekeepers there who are 190 in number.

Now the troops from India, Philippines and Fiji are left behind as Austria is in the process of taking away its troops and had withdrawn 378 UN peacekeepers.

The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) was stationed since 1974 to oversee the ceasefire between Israel and Syria and Austria had 1000 peacekeepers there. There is another aspect of concern for India which is the EU has now eased the restrictions of weapon for the rebels. India has stated that the security of its peacekeepers should be ensured in a zone which is very vulnerable.

India supports the Geneva II initiative which specifies about political resolution for the crisis in Syria that led to death of 70,000 people killed and thousands leaving the country in the fighting which has continued for more than two years. India as well as 58 countries did not support the UN resolution drafted by the states in the Middle East asking for a political transformation in Syria.

JD-U to end relations with the BJP?

JD-U seems poised to end its alliance of 17 years with the BJP over the issue of elevation of Narendra Modi, the Gujarat CM. BJP seems undeterred by this development.

It is also being said that only a formal announcement will be made now for the separation. As per sources, many leaders had a talk with the Bihar CM Nitish Kumar till late night and the decision was taken to end the relation with the BJP.

Sharad Yadav is also expected to come by Thursday or Friday for discussions. The JD-U has issues with the major role assigned to Modi in the 2014 election and also that Advani resigned and then had to listen to the party to continue.

Rupee rebounds to 57.88 against dollar

The rupee got some breather with the intervention of the government and the RBI and it was 57.88 against a dollar after it slumped to the lowest of 58.98 on Tuesday. It traded at 57.93 against the dollar at 1:10 p.m. and struck a high at 57.88 though the intra-day low was at 58.38 against the dollar. It had fallen for three days at a stretch.

The central bank stepped in the foreign exchange markets to stop its decline. It has been informed that SEBI and RBI will take the necessary steps and that the situation is being closely monitored.

Sreesanth gets a huge welcome at Kochi

Sreesanth arrived today at Kochi after being granted a bail to an overwhelming response by his fans. People were clamoring for space along with the media at the airport.

Sreesanth has stated that he had faith in the judicial system and that he would wait for his name to come clear out of the spot-fixing controversy.

He did not reveal much about his stay at Tihar for 27 days but said that he would not wish such a condition even for his enemies. He stated he was asked to get up and stand in the dead of the night in his cell by the jail officials.

He and Ankeet Chavan was released on bail while Ankit Chandila did not apply for bail.

Salman Khan's name comes up in Jiah's case

There is another development in Jiah Khan’s suicide case. Her mother Rabbiya Khan has stated that Aditya Pancholi had asked Salman Khan to talk to his son Suraj and get him out of the relationship with Jiah. But Suraj is believed to have told him that he was in love with Jiah that is when Salman accepted the same.

Things changed dramatically when Salman roped in Suraj in a movie that is when he started acting pricey. Jiah’s mother told that Jiah wanted to meet Salman and had asked Suraj for that but he did not pay heed to that. All hell broke loose when he sent the breakup bouquet to Jiah and had even assaulted her. Earlier, Suraj was interrogated by the police and then was allowed to go but he was arrested when Jiah’s suicide notes were discovered.

Samsung launches Galaxy S4 Zoom

Samsung unveiled the fourth variant of Galaxy S4 - the Galaxy S4 Zoom. It comes with a 16 megapixel CMOS sensor having 10x optical zoom. There is a Xenon Flash and a zoom ring in the phone. The zoom ring when turned leads to activation of the in-call feature. You can take pictures while you are in the middle of the call and share it with the person you are talking to.

Other features of the phone include a 1.9 MP camera in the front, Android Jelly Bean 4.2, 4.3-inch HD AMOLED with a resolution of 960x540, 1.5GHz dual-core processor,8GB of internal storage though user gets only 5GB, expandable memory up to 64GB, 1.5GB RAM, 2,330 mAh battery.
