13 August 2019 Current Events Temple Demolition in Delhi Sparks Protests in Punjab

There are protests across the country by Ravidasia community against the demolition of Sant Ravidas temple in Tughlakabad, Delhi. The demolition of the semi-permanent structure was ordered by the Supreme Court in a suit filed by Guru Ravi Das Jayanti Samaroh Samiti. Reportedly, the order of the apex court came after its earlier order to vacate the forest area was not carried out. Responding to the demolition, Goraya, Phillaur, Banga, Noormahal, Nakodar reported complete bandh. As per reports, Indian Railways has also been terminating the services of Punjab bound trains midway at Ambala or some other station since morning. These include Shatabdi, Dadar express, Gorakhpur – Jammu Tawi, Katihar Express and Malwa Express.  Meanwhile, educational institutions were closed in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Gurdaspur. The Punjab Board supplementary exams scheduled for today have also been postponed.


Internet Suspended in 10 Areas in Jaipur

Early on Tuesday morning, internet services were suspended in 10 areas in Jaipur after two groups engaged in a conflict over an attack on a bus conveying pilgrims. These 10 areas includes some riot sensitive areas such as Ramganj and Khole Ke Hanuman Ji Chauraha. The reason behind the internet shut down by the district administration is to “prevent the spread of any rumours” which can further provoke any communal conflict.
