Lalu granted bail in Fodder Case

 

Bail was granted to RJD chief and fodder scan accused Lalu Yadav by the Supreme Court. Lalu has been sentenced to a 5 year jail term in for his involvement in the 1999 fodder scam. The Supreme Court Bench led by Chief Justice P Sathasivam and justice Ranjan Gogoi opined that other accused have been given bail already. The court also stated that Lalu has already served 1 year of imprisonment our of his 5 years term. The trial court was asked by the apex court to formulate the conditions for the bail granted. Lalu’s bail plea mentioned that he being the former CM of Bihar, Union Railway Minister and chief of RJD he was not going to flee the country. Also it was mentioned that Lalu wad differently treated than other co-accused who already had got bail. Lalu Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra along with 43 others were convicted on September 30 by a special CBI court. There were charges of withdrawing Rs. 37.7 crore fraudulently from Chaibasa Treasury when the RJD was in power.

Shah Rukh Khan tops Celebrity 100 list of Forbes

Shah Rukh Khan is on the top again of Forbes India's celebrity 100 list. This enlists the top celebrities of India. SRK ranked in the category of earnings whereas there were some cricketers who had more rankings depending on their fame. The list includes names like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif as well as Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.The Celebrity 100 list is compiled by estimating earnings and fame. Actors all male except Katrina Kaif on number nine are there in the Top Ten in 2013. Dhoni has reached 2nd from 3rd position last year and has replaced Salman Khan who now has slipped to 3rd position. On 4th and 5th positions are Tendulkar and Amitabh Bachchan. Ranbir and Hrithik Roshan has replaced. Kareena Kapoor and Virendra Sehwag who now don’t figure in top 10. In the 100 list there are Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Trivedi, Kamal Haasan and Sridevi.

Vasundhara Raje sworn in as Rajasthan CM

Vasundhara Raje was sworn in as the chief minister of Rajasthan for the 2nd time after the BJP defeated the Congress in the assembly elections. She was the Chief Minister from 2003 to 2008. She was sworn in by the Governor Margaret Alva at the Rajasthan assembly. The attendees included L.K. Advani, Rajnath Singh, Narendra Modi, Shivraj Singh the Madhya Pradesh CM, Raman Singh the CM of Chhattisgarh along with former party president Nitin Gadkari. Congress’s Ashok Gehlot who was the former CM was also present. The road leading to the state assembly was filled with party workers. There were 2000 policemen on duty. The BJP had got an emphatic win over Congress which ended the five years rule of Ashok Gehlot-led Congress rule. They grabbed 162 out of 199 seats.

Senior diplomat arrested in the US

Devyani Khobragade , a senior diplomat at India's New York consulate was arrested today for alleged visa fraud in the process of hiring a domestic help and furnishing fake information. She was later on set free on a $250,000-bond after she pleaded not guilty in a court. The incident happened after the IFS officer had dropped her daughter to school. The domestic help she hired was brought from India. The charges for providing false documents and information can invite maximum sentences of 10 years and five years respectively. Khobragade now cannot leave the country though she is free to travel within the US provided she gives prior notification. What has come as a shock to India is the manner in which she was arrested in full public glare. It has also been reported that Devyani Khobragade, owned two flats in the Adarsh Housing Society which was illegally constructed on government land.

IOA may face further suspension in six months: Government Observer

 

Indian Olympic Association may have its suspension revoked and new suspension may be imposed on it by IOC suspension in six months time. This was informed by Morad Ali Khan, the Government Observer for Shooting in India, who said there were things to worry if IOA did not amend their Constitution. He specified that IOC will look into it in few months. There is one clause where it is stated that charge sheet can be filed in any court of India and Ethics Commission can challenge it but this can be challenged only at a higher court and modifications can be done by the Parliament only. Morad also stated that change is required in the voting process, in Ethics Commission, tenure and age clause. Raninder Singh, National Rifle Association of India president also seconded what Morad had said.

Meteor shower to occur today night and early morning tomorrow, visible in Kolkata

 

People in Kolkata will be able to witness a fantastic meteor shower today that is December 13 night and early morning of December 14. This is a Germinid meteor shower coming from the direction of the constellation Gemini and so the name. It is also stated that even people from other countries like the US and the ones in Europe and Asia can view the showers if the conditions are suitable. The best time is to view early in the morning on Saturday as moon’s brightness can dim the visibility before that. The largest concentration will be at 2 am and the frequency will be 100-120 meteors per hour at peak time.
