100 Maoists attack Dhanbad Patna Intercity Express

As many as 100 Maoists attacked the Dhanbad Patna Intercity Express with the intention to target the RPF personnel and take away their weapons. The incident happened at 1pm between Jamui and Bhalui station and the firing is said to have lingered for 15-20 min.

One RPF personnel lost his life in this attack and three self-loading rifles were looted by the Naxals. Amitabh Kumar Das, SP Railway Jamalpur, informed that the passengers were safe. There were 400-500 passengers in the train. Only 5 RPF were on board as it is believed that Maoists attack in the darkness. This time they have surprised everyone with their attack in broad daylight. As many as six people have been injured till the reports last came.

Food Security Bill may be passed in Parliament special session

The government has informed that it will make one more attempt to ensure the passage of Food Security Bill in the special session of the parliament. It also stated that the ordinance was ready as well.

It is being said that the opposition will be requested to support the passage of the bill and if they agree to do so then it can be carried out in the special session of the parliament. If not, the ordinance option will be adopted to introduce the National Food Security Bill, which will ensure subsidized food grains to approximately 67% of the population.

This means around 800 million people would avail the benefit and the expenditure for all this will be approximately Rs.1.3 lakh crore. This bill is being perceived as a game changer for the Congress in the general elections in 2014.

SBI deposits witness 60% increase

The State Bank of India saw a 60 per cent rise in deposits in this fiscal. The reason seems to be people’s diversion to savings from ponzi schemes after companies dealing in such schemes got bust in recent times.

What is interesting enough is that last year towards the end SBI, which is India’s largest bank, had seen sudden plunge in the deposits much in the same fashion as other banks.

Financial limit of highway projects increased to Rs.500 crore

The national highways project got a boost today with the road transport ministry getting the financial limit increased to Rs.500 crore by the Union cabinet. In fact, keeping in mind the hiked costs, projects handled by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways are within Rs. 300 crore to Rs. 500 crore.

National Highways projects that fall in the range of Rs. 500 crore will now be analyzed by a committee headed by the Secretary of Expenditure or the Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee as deemed suitable and sanction will be provided by the CCEA.

"Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again" to release a week later

 Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again will now release on August 15 instead of August 8 as the latter date is when Eid takes place and Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express is releasing.

Shah Rukh had a talk with Jeetendra regarding this, as Balaji Motion Pictures is the producer of the movie. Jeetendra suggested that the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again be shifted to a later date which is again a holiday.

Shah Rukh was very pleased with the development and even stated that this would set a trend for future as well when two films have date clashes.

WhatsApp creates record

WhatsApp edged past its own record when 27 billion messages were sent through it within a span of 24 hours.

The earlier record was for 19 billion messages on 31st December 2012. As many as 10 billion messages were sent and 17 billion received.

WhatsApp, has a feature of being used on different platforms that has added to its popularity. It now has 200 million more users than Twitter. In fact, Blackberry Messenger users are also 60 million in comparison.
