The apex court has fixed November 19, Monday, as the date to hear the petition filed by Zakia Jafri against the Special Investigating Team (SIT)'s clean chit to PM Narendra Modi and others in the 2002 riots.
On February 8 2012, the SIT had filed its closure report on the case, citing Modi 'clean', stating that no prosecutable evidence was present. Jafri is the wife of Ehsan Jafri, an ex-MP who was killed in the riots. The SC bench will consist of Justices A M Khanwilkar and Deepak Gupta.
On November 13, the Supreme Court agreed to review its verdict, allowing women of all ages entry inside the temple.
A five-judge bench, led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi fixed January 22 as the date for reconsideration. However, meanwhile, the SC has refused to stay its initial verdict, much to the dismay of several devotees.
