15 April 2020 Current Events Thousands of Migrant Workers Gathered at Bandra West Railway Station, Hoping to Get Back Home

On Tuesday, thousands of migrant workers stranded in Mumbai post nationwide lockdown since March 24 gathered at Mumbai's Bandra West railway station hoping to get back home as the lockdown was supposed to end on Tuesday. In the process, around 3,000 daily wage labourers started congregating outside Bandra bus depot from 4 pm. Given the crowd, Mumbai police came into the picture and had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. These daily wagers were not earning anything since the lockdown. Residing on rent in slums like Patel Nagri, they were demanding transport facilities from the government so that they can go back to their respective native towns. However, Maharashtra Cabinet minister Aslam Sheikh assured that there were no lack of food supplies for them in the city.
