Alert at airports to prevent Italian envoy from leaving India

An alert was sounded at airports all across the country so as to deter the Italian ambassador from leaving India. This has been done by the union home ministry a day after the Supreme Court restricted Italian ambassador Daniele Mancini from leaving India without its permission. Alert has been sounded as a part of the security measure. The Supreme Court took an exception to Italy's refusal to send back two marines who are charged with killing two Indian fishermen.The apex court in February had given permission to the marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone to go back to Italy to vote in the Feb 24-25 national election.

Minimum wages law to be amended by the Government

Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge stated that the minimum wages act would be amended so that the minimum wages announced by the centre is "statutory for all states and applicable to all jobs". Kharge informed the Rajya Sabha that the government would amend the minimum wages act so as to define the "national floor-level minimum wages, which will be made statutory for all states and applicable to all jobs". Currently the provisions of the minimum wages act are not applicable in cases of those employments where the total number of workers in a state is less than 1,000. After the amendment, it would be applicable to all employments.The Feb 20-21 strike by the country's 11 registered trade unions was called in demand for the government to control price rise, increase minimum wages, rights of workers along with host of other demands.The minister stated the government also had plans to amend the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act wherein "The amendments propose that in case where contract labourers perform the same or similar work as the workmen directly appointed by the principal employer, the wage rates, holidays, social security provisions of the contract labourers shall be the same as are available to the directly appointed workmen."

Lok Sabha passes resolution against Pakistan

Lok Sabha passed a resolution which dismissed a motion of the Pakistan national assembly charging the hanging of Afzal Guru, the parliament attack convict. Speaker Meira Kumar read out the resolution.The resolution also specifies that Jammu and Kashmir, "including the (Pakistan) occupied territories, were an integral part of India". The speaker stated, "The house rejects interference in the internal affairs of India and calls upon the National Assembly of Pakistan to desist from acts of support for extremists and terrorists." It was also specified that for peaceful relations with Pakistan it had to commit that "it will not allow its territory to be used for terrorism against India". She also in a tone of caution stated that any attempts of interference in the internal affairs of India will be dealt strongly.

'Commando' a no-injury movie: Vidyut Jamwal

In spite of the fact that "Commando" is a high voltage action drama, its lead actor Vidyut Jamwal said no one was injured during the shooting as there were full preparation and it was decided to make it a no-injury movie. The film's first look was released on Thursday. Vidyut is trained in Kalaripayattu, a martial art form of Kerala. Directed by Dilip Ghosh, "Commando" has Miss India Pooja Chopra and Jaideep Ahlawat in the cast. The film will release on April 12.

India cancels hockey series with Pakistan

 India on Friday showed a strong reaction to Pakistan's National Assembly condemnation of the hanging of terrorist Afzal Guru. The bilateral hockey series scheduled for April-May was cancelled by India. Hockey India (HI) and Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) after seven years had planned a two-legged bilateral series. There would have been a five-match series in India April 5-15 and India would have toured Pakistan for the second leg of the series, also involving five matches, from April 23. The matches would have been played in Ranchi, Lucknow, Delhi, Mohali and Jalandhar while India's matches  were scheduled in Lahore, Faisalabad, Karachi and Sialkot. Last tournament between the two countries was a bilateral series in 2006 when both the countries hosted three matches each. Pakistan won three, lost one and two matches were draw.

Samsung Electronics launched its new flagship smartphone Galaxy S4, which has a feature that would let users control the screen by where they look through a "Smart Pause" function. The fourth generation of Galaxy S series was launched at Radio City Music Hall in New York. While the users watch a video, if they remove their glance from the video it will pause, and will re-start again when they look back.Through "Smart Scroll" function users can scroll the browser or emails up and down without even touching the screen. The phone recognizes users' face while looking at the screen and their wrist movement and then scrolls the pages up or down. The phone comes packed with a 5-inch full HD AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080, a pixel density of 441 pixel per inch (ppi), 13 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera, through which users can select eight different ways to combine the photos taken by both cameras through dual camera function. Galaxy S4 has 1.9 GHz quad-core processor and 1.6 GHz Octa-core processor that will support 3G network as well as the 4G LTE. As many as 327 mobile operators in 150 countries will be utilized for rolling out this phone in possibly late-April, whereas Galaxy S3 was launched via 296 wireless carriers in 145 nations.
